This year the timing on the bird is gonna be a bit messed up. My 14 y.o. son play ice hockey and this year we are playing in a home tournament. Usually the Thanksgiving tournaments are not much of an issue, if we are outta town we eat whatever and I smoke a bird when we get home. But this year we got scheduled a game at 12 noon on Thursday, so I'm trying to figure out which approach would be best. With a 12PM game he has to be at the rink by 11AM which means on the road to the rink at 10:30AM and we get home until roughly 2:30PM. So I think I have 3 options.
I'm in quite a quandry here, not sure which way to go. The only I do know is that the third option is not an option, in you know what I mean
- Get up early and start the bird around 6:00AM the foil and hold it in a cooler until we get home. I figure the bird will be holding for 4 to 5 hours. Is this too long?
- Put the bird on the right at 10:30AM and pray that it doesn't finish before I get home. It's an 18lb bird and I think this is pushing the timing? I do have a Stoker which I can monitor from my phone or iPad
- Wait until we get home and put the bird on around 3:00PM, but this means dinner after 7:00PM, which doesnt make for a happy wife or family.
