Just thought I'd post a few pics of my plates with a their new black powder coat paint job. Wasn't sure if I should have gotten them done black or silver - glad I went with the black!

However, since it was Power Coating, when I put the wheels back on I was over tightening on of the plates (learned not to do so on the second) thus some of the paint chipped around the bolts on top. I then picked up some car chip paint to match, but of course the **** bottle dumped on one, which immediately dried and made a hazy area even after trying to wipe off. Anyone have any ideas on how to get the car paint off without removing the powder coat?

Honestly, its Aircraft Aluminum.

I see your working on your own out of wood, I highly recommend making a Decagon and use 5 wheels. We did a lot of research into the design and number of wheels. It then occurred to us that we were in fact sitting on nearly an identical design - our office chairs! They all have 5 wheels.

Actually, we are trying to come up with the right material for weight and cost effectiveness. The aircraft aluminum I used are about $600 each. But if you'd like, I can let you (and the board) know when we have it perfected.

Looks great David!

The black finish looks fantastic. Maby get a larger base(plate) area so it wont tilt over if one of the weels get stuck? This applys to a wsm in use with meat on the top grate.(never move mine during a cook but still) Just a thought.

We actually did a great deal of research on the size subject. Because of the 5 wheel design & shape, the WSM is nearly impossible to knock over when moving full or empty. It also keeps close to the original form factor of the WSM for storing when not in use. If one wheel gets stuck or falls, the WSM will turn instead of topple.
