And I spent 5 minutes cleaning it up with a paper towel and some Dawn.

Here it is:

How did I do?

Oh I almost forgot! It came with a free 22 inch version too. I haven't cleaned that one yet, but neither were very dirty ......

Nice score Gerd! If you ever want to clean grills like new use spray oven cleaner, let sit according to directions and then with some water and fine brillo pad it will clean up like new.

I gotta tell you Rob, I think Dawn will do the trick on the big one... I am not exagerating when I say it took a few minutes to clean up the smokey Joe, including the grate which looks brand new.

For the 22, I need to buy a new cooking grate anyway, it was missing. So no cleaning of that will be required. The bowl is not bad at all. I will probably get to it tomorrow and post "after" pictures of it as well.

These things are in great shape and listed for 10 bucks each on CL. I told the lady I was on my way and got her address. She negotiated me down to 15!

OK, Here is the 22 cleaned up, and then put back together. I decided to clean it tonight so I could be sure I am able cook on it tomorrow.

All in, 15 bucks for the two grills, and about a dollar for some Dawn, paper towels, and one of those "magic erasers" to clean them with. I'll need to add a 22 inch cooking grate (rather than stealing from the WSM22) and I should be out the door for two essentially new grills for a little over $30 and 90 minutes of elbow grease.

I'd really like a red, cobalt, or forest green one though. Hmmmm..

NICE!

Will you also need a new One Touch cleaning system in the 22 or was the existing one in decent shape and you removed it for cleaning purposes?

I removed the One Touch to clean the bowl and took the bowl photo before assembly. It was in great shape, so I just soaked it 10 minutes and scraped a little caked on charcoal slurry off of them and re-attached. They are about as clean as the ash catcher pie plate. (In my after assembly photo, the One Touch handle is hidden on the other side).

I did just realize the leg is missing the leg cap / bumper. Rather than ordering from weber, does anyone know the spec on that so I could grab one from Ace HW? Better yet, what replacement works for it? Maybe a 1 inch curtain rod bumper?

EDIT: I just read a previous post suggesting the white cap from a one pound propane cannister is a good temporary solution. I can confirm it is, that will last me a few months I am sure.
