I'm having an issue with alerts from the Weber Connect app, basically alerts only work if the screen is unlocked and the Weber Connect app in focus. If the phone is locked/asleep or I'm in another app (with Weber connect still running in background), the alerts do not sound, pop up, etc. Since I cannot depend on them, I pretty much use my Fireboard for cook monitoring and usually just set the grill temps manually. When I then go into the app, I get bombed with every alert for the past how many cooks - every temperature change reached and shutdown complete that have occurred since I last put the app in focus. Alerts for other apps running in the background sound and display all the time even when screen is off.
I'm mostly just curious if others are seeing the same thing or if your alerts are still firing when your screen is off and another app is open. It's somewhat frustrating to buy a grill with tech, wait for enough updates to make the app good enough to actually not mind using, then realize you cannot rely on it and need a 3rd party device. I was going to try deleting and reinstalling the app, but before I start what could turn into a hassle in the middle of winter (I have a fear of problems getting everything connected again), I want to make sure everyone else isn't seeing the same problem. I'm not going to burn up my iPhone screen and battery by setting the screen to not lock and keeping the Weber app open all day during long cooks...plus I couldn't even if I wanted to due to company security certificates controlling screen lock timers.
Some days the SmokeFire is entertaining. I love the food it produces, but I feel like it's a toddler that needs a constant babysitter. I started using my Fireboard on it after a cook where everything went wonky and it was very apparent the grill was running way over the temp displayed and the food probes were not registering changes causing me to ruin dinner when I realized that my food was 50 degrees over what multiple Weber probes were saying (in app and on grill display). I swear the alerts used to work as one would expect from a modern app, but maybe Weber/June broke them with an update or my grill just decided if I was hiring a babysitter, it was going to make the sitters life a pain.
