Issue with SmokeFire alerts from Weber Connect App

I'm having an issue with alerts from the Weber Connect app, basically alerts only work if the screen is unlocked and the Weber Connect app in focus. If the phone is locked/asleep or I'm in another app (with Weber connect still running in background), the alerts do not sound, pop up, etc. Since I cannot depend on them, I pretty much use my Fireboard for cook monitoring and usually just set the grill temps manually. When I then go into the app, I get bombed with every alert for the past how many cooks - every temperature change reached and shutdown complete that have occurred since I last put the app in focus. Alerts for other apps running in the background sound and display all the time even when screen is off.

I'm mostly just curious if others are seeing the same thing or if your alerts are still firing when your screen is off and another app is open. It's somewhat frustrating to buy a grill with tech, wait for enough updates to make the app good enough to actually not mind using, then realize you cannot rely on it and need a 3rd party device. I was going to try deleting and reinstalling the app, but before I start what could turn into a hassle in the middle of winter (I have a fear of problems getting everything connected again), I want to make sure everyone else isn't seeing the same problem. I'm not going to burn up my iPhone screen and battery by setting the screen to not lock and keeping the Weber app open all day during long cooks...plus I couldn't even if I wanted to due to company security certificates controlling screen lock timers.

Some days the SmokeFire is entertaining. I love the food it produces, but I feel like it's a toddler that needs a constant babysitter. I started using my Fireboard on it after a cook where everything went wonky and it was very apparent the grill was running way over the temp displayed and the food probes were not registering changes causing me to ruin dinner when I realized that my food was 50 degrees over what multiple Weber probes were saying (in app and on grill display). I swear the alerts used to work as one would expect from a modern app, but maybe Weber/June broke them with an update or my grill just decided if I was hiring a babysitter, it was going to make the sitters life a pain.

The latest software update killed notifications when the app is not open or when the screen is closed. CS has been informed multiple times on this issue. At this time, use of the Weber notifications is problematic. Many of us use an air probe in addition to the controller and find vast differences in the temps.

Which is why I use the Fireboard. I've had a Weber pit probe plugged into the controller not read accurately at times too (confirmed with multiple Fireboard probes millimeters away from it). However, sometimes for a quick cook it would be nice to just hook up a Weber food probe as an indicator that it's time to start checking with Thermopen and be able to rely on it.

Thanks for confirming I'm not nuts on the notifications. I knew it used to work, but I've played with so many different pellet grills and wireless therms over the past 12 months I can sometimes mix them up.

I just noticed that another app is also currently having trouble with notifications. I am starting to wonder if an Apple security update caused a problem.

It's definitely possible, but I haven't found others not working - not at all implying that you don't have other apps with problems, just saying I have too many apps that annoy me because they work all the time and I get tired of tweaking all their alert settings to shut them up. Maybe a particular iOS API/method got changed and some apps are using it and didn't notice the change or something. Since most others are still working, I'm still thinking it will be Weber's responsibility to fix.

After a couple of cold weeks - fired up the grill tonight with an outdoor temperature of 70 deg. I did not experience any issues with notifications with the Weber app notifications even if it was not active or the iPhone locked. People having issues with this check your notification settings.
