ideas of what to use the middle section of a 22.5 WSM for!

My new 22.5 WSM came yesterday by UPS. The middle section was banged up and missing some finish. Weber is sending a new middle out and I was told to keep the messed up one. I wanted to see if anyone had some ideas of what I could do with it. I thought about using it as a BBQ pit in my backyard and buying the rotisserie from Cajun Bandits for it. Would love to here any ideas you guys might have!

Thanks,
Jason

You could double-stack the mid-sections - Stacking Middle Sections

Or find an 18" OTS kettle on CL and build a WSM clone. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

So a 18" OTS kettle is the right size to use for the middle section of the 22.5 WSM? I think I might go that route and give it to my dad to use. Let me know when you get a sec!

Thanks,
Jason

Does it fit on your Performer?

Just tried and my Performer is bigger. So I am guessing since the 18.5 OTS Kettle is smaller it would sit down onto it. Guess I will not know for sure unless I can find a place to try it unless someone on here knows for sure.

Thanks,
Jason

Sorry, missed that. No, it won't fit.

How much bigger? Is it close? If so, you might be able to use a foil 'gasket' to seal it.

It seemed big enough that I would be afraid it would fall off. My buddy next door has a Weber OTS and I think it's a 18.5...I will have to see how it fits on that!

Unless Weber has changed their build specs. The bottom and top sections of the WSMs are the same as the bottom half of a kettle of the same size.

So in my case my 18in WSM middle fits on top of my 18in OTS. I would expect the same for the 22 WSM. The middle section should fit on top of a 22 standard kettle.

However the kettle top will not fit the WSM middle top so one would need to salvage an appropriate sized kettle bottom and make it into a top. A Bar B Kettle may be more appropriate for a top as it has the 3 wheel vent design.

Timothy, My 22 OTS ID bottom is about 21 7/8.

On my 18 WSM the lid is 18.5 OD, the link states that the 18 middle ID is 18.5 while I measured mine at 18 7/8. Which maakes sense otherwise it wouldn't fit.

Weber used one mold for both WSMs (bottom and lid) and Kettles (bottom). I think this was discussed elsewhere on this site as well.

So the middle section of a WSM should fit on top of a same sized kettle, just add the bottom of the same sized kettle to make a lid and one would have a complete WSM.

Right, but you will still need to adjust the leg height which is not as easy as it sounds. Otherwise you will need a ladder to use it.

Or fab some legs like what comes with a Cajun Bandit.

Jason, if u don't find a home for it let me know and I'll pay for shipping.
