Hi All,
Greetings from beautiful, sunny San Diego, CA. I have been grilling on Webers since around 2004, when I bought my first - a Genesis Silver B - which is still in operation today. Since then I have added a Weber Gold 22" kettle (now called the Premium, I guess) and the 22" Smokey Mountain. The Genesis Silver B underwent a bit of a refurb years ago (around 2011 I think), mostly free of charge thanks to Weber's awesome customer service sending me a brand new set of flavorizer bars and grates for $0 when I called to inquire about buying replacements. I am now at the point of considering refurb #2 on it, but am not expecting any free parts this time around, due to the advanced age of the machine. If I do the second refurb I will probably go with stainless flavorizer bars this time; the grates are still in pretty darn good shape though, so will most likely be left alone (unless I decide to spring for one of the excellent SS options discussed so often here).
My big issue, and I will probably just be starting a separate post on this, is finding a way to enclose the bottom, so that my two Aussies will stop licking the grease pan (and bottom part of the collector) clean at every opportunity. They are so persistent about it that they have bent down the aluminum rails that hold the collector up so that it is hanging down off the bottom of the box, several times now. They are easy enough to bend back into shape of course, but that just illustrates their determination. I also am wanting to (finally) add a rotisserie to the mix after all these years, and have read somewhere on here that the grills with the East-West running burners are ideal for this. This is part of what is making me not just go out and replace the old girl with a new enclosed model.
