Grilling/Smoking Friendly Pool Decking

Due to completely blowing out our pool/landscaping budget I'm going to have to put my outdoor kitchen construction into phase II. Want to do it right with all the bells and whistles the first time. So, it looks like my grilling area will be my patio that I'm going to have re-done in the same decking as the pool area. I'm leaning towards something similar to Kool-deck; anyone have any experience with this type of decking under grills/smokers? If you drop a brisket on it will it stain it, bbq sauce, ash etc.?

Thanks in advance!

When I think of decking, I always associate that with wood or composite material. Never heard of "Kool-deck" but after a search it seems as it's a deck coating similar to paint?
Irregardless, I still would use a grill matt or something similar to protect your investment.

Kool deck I imagine stains fairly easily - I think it stays cool by being a little less dense than cement. There's a HUGE temperature difference. My grilling/smoking setup is on plain concrete right next to the deck...

I'm as careful with the deck as I am the pool regarding stains (bobby pins / leafs / whatever). It powerwashes fairly well, but you'll want to keep it clean.

OT: that "structure" in the background---I've been toying with the idea of making it my smoke shack / outdoor kitchen by beefing it up a bit & adding corrugated steel for the roof and sides. Pipe dream of a smoke shack.

Thanks for the posts guys. I think the idea of laying down some sort of protective mat for the short term is a good idea. Outdoor kitchen will more than likely be stamped concrete as it will be shaded and we won't have to worry about the sun heating it up as much.

I think the cool deck is just rolled on like a thick paint. There are a few places that are chipped (it's 23 years old), I don't think it's very thick.
