For anyone who doesn't know, in the US, 1/4" diameter with 20 threads per inch (abbreviated 1/4-20) has been the most common size for nuts and bolts that you will find around the house for decades. There are lots of other diameters and thread pitches (not to mention metric sizes), but 1/4-20 has always been kind of standard for light fastening applications.
