Genesis E-310 for $200, or keep the Platinum Series II?

Hi,

First post here and the answer may be obvious to many, but I'm torn. Hoping for some advice from the Weber experienced.

I was able to purchase a brand new, still in the box, Genesis E-310 with front to back burners for $200 from a gent who was leaving the state.

I currently have what may be considered a rare beast--a circa 1997 Platinum Series II with porcelain work surfaces and a side burner. Essentially it is a Genesis 3200. The Platinum II is in good shape but needs flavorer bars (13), burner tubes, and an igniter. Otherwise the box and lid are decent, and the side burner works; their is no frame rust.

Should I sell the Genesis E-310 for $400 or so, take the $200 profit from the sale and rebuild the Platinum II? Or should I keep the new Genesis E-310 with the newly configured burners? The Platinum II has the rotisserie which would need modification to work with the E-310. Keeping them both is not a real option because space is limited, and our family has shrunk since the kids have gone to college. I suppose I could sell the Platinum for $75 or so....

Thanks

I also have a Platinum Series II and that thing is built like a tank. Last year, I picked up an E-310 for free from Craigslist. That grill is NOT built like a tank. I rehabbed it and sold it for $300 if I remember correctly. Personally, I'd dump the E-310 and sink a few bucks into the Series II and not worry about it for the next 15 years or so.

Thanks for the response. That is what I've been thinking (dang it, I'm really trying to rationalize keeping the new E-310), but there isn't one person I know who says to spend the time rebuilding the Platinum when I have a brand new Weber for one quarter the cost of a new one.

What do you feel are the weaknesses of the E-310? It has the front to back burners, a decent amount of work space, and the lid sure feels heavy duty when compared to the Platinum.

Any Genesis E-310 owners who want to chime in?

Thanks again-

It's a GREAT unit but you have the better of the two for rotisserie in the Platinum. My sister has the E310. I have used it and it does a very nice job. but you have such a wonderful and rare one in the Platinum (and that old style does a WONDERFUL job) that if it is a solid grill other than a few parts there is no way in hell I would let it go.

Thanks to all for the input. I'll keep them both and rebuild the Platinum while using the E-310. My wife doesn't want two grills around, but that's why God invented camo paint. She'll never know...
