gas grill for my pops

my pops over 10 year old thermos 6000 gas grill is on its last legs. basically, he cant grill steaks/chicken/pork anymore because theres just not much flame. not much heat.

cleaning the tubes every week or so just too much work for little reward. not enough heat even when cleaned.

all he uses it for now is the side burner. so i am looking to surprise him with a cool gas grill but dont want to buy a huge full on gas grill.

i have a weber performer but he likes the ease of propane grills.

i am looking at the smaller weber qs and wondering which would be a good fit for him.

two things. 20# propane tank will be used. also, must have high searing capability which in all my research propane grills just dont provide.

is this possible for under $300?
 
If he can use the bit of extra space I suggest the 220. It has a taller lid, electronic ignition and the flip out side tables.
 
I am a huge fan of the Weber Q220. I have a LOT of grills but still use my Q220 at least once a week. The Q220 has cast iron grates that produce fantastic grill marks. Temps for me using a 20lb take will get up around 500 degrees, which with the cast iron grates does a good sear.

I also have a Genesis Silver B that I got off of CL and upgraded with stainless steel flavorizer bars and PCI grates and it's a great grill but doesn't get a lot of use any more. If you're looking for a used one, the Genesis pop up here on CL every month or so and are affordable. It'll run up over 550 degrees and the cast iron grates do a good sear, especially if you flip them over and cook with the "wide" side facing up.

If $$ are not as much of a consideration, the Q320 sure does look nice - dual burners and cast iron grates - looks like a real winner!

well after more research i would need to buy an adapter hose for $25 to fit a 20# tank on the q220.

or i could just get the cart with the adapter included for $90

but that puts me close to the q320 in price which is bigger and includes cart, tank adapter and side burners. ill wait until the q320 is on sale. its currently $359 on amazon
