Full Cleaning of my Silver B Today

I've got Simple Green, hot water via hose with a good sprayer a couple of brushes and lots of elbow grease since I don't really want to hit it with the powerwasher. Any hints or tricks for problem areas? I'm not trying to make it look like new, but I want to remove all the grunge to hopefully extend its life a few more years.

I've got replacement SS grates and flavorizor bars on order, so I want this to be ready to go when those arrive later in the week. That will be a big day.

How did the cleaning go?

I try to keep my Spirit in good shape in between cooks, but a good ol' spring cleaning is needed.

Its clean and the job was pretty straight-forward. The inside was a mess with all the residue from grilling, the rotting bars and the rotting grates. I did some light brushing, but used more hot water than anything to loosen up the really stubborn stuff. I also ended up using a stronger degreaser than my simple green as an all-over spray just to remove dirt and grease from all the surfaces. It appears to have discolored the cast iron pieces of the lid and the base - leaving a chalky white residue behind. Probably was there to a degree before, but now I really notice it more.

I'm going to get after it with a soft brush and some simple green to see if that will come off. Sort of looks like what happens if you accidentally get wax on the plastic parts of your car. Kicking myself a bit for maybe being too aggressive with the Purple Power cleaner.

Parts should arrive in the next day or so for the final reassembly, so if it cooks well again it will be easy to forget the minor troubles on the outside.

I would have to see a picture but I think the white stuff on the cast aluminum is the equivalent of rust. just brush it off as well as you can.
