Feeler:Bracket to use OEM Weber handle

Well, I finally have internet again so I wanted to pose the question: How many would be interested in a bracket or handle base that would allow you to use the same Weber handle already on your smoker as an additional handle as well?

I've been using my WSM for a while now and I'm thinking about adding some handles to the middle section. I checked out some of things you guys have done, but being a purist, thought "how cool would it be to add more handles just like the ones already there?" They'd just have to be through bolted as opposed to welded on. My first coice would be 1/4-20 black stainless truss head machine screws.

I get similar parts made all the time, but you can't really start getting them at a reasonable price until you buy 20 or so. Obviously the price becomes less and less the more you buy. I would expect something like this to be around $20@. Water jet cut, CNC and powder coated. The OEM Weber handle looks to be $6.99@ and I would NOT plan on supplying the handle unless I could get enough takers out of the gate. The part would be powder coated black wrinkle. I could do black gloss, but it would increase the price.

I want to be very clear; I'm not looking to make a business of this. I've been doing similar things on other forums for years. Finding something I want, making it available to others, sharing the overall cost and passing along what I have access to without profit.

Thoughts?

I would be interested if you could make a set that you could "pin/hinge" that would allow you to have the handles "locked" up when in use and "released" down when not in use. This would allow the cover to still fit over the smoker. I know that makes them more expensive....but more practical as well.

Hope that wasn't too confusing.

I have the Ranch Kettle handles on my 22 and the work great. I also use the cover and don't seem to have a problem getting it over the handles. It's a little snug, but I also have a lid holder bracket the sticks out a little. I like it slightly snug, because when it gets windy, the cover stays put.

Hmm...if the cover can fit, I may just get the Ranch handles. In the thread linked above, the author made is seem like Weber doesnt want to sell them to you unless you have a Ranch registered....what's the deal with that?

Hmm.. Not sure what you mean by being a "purist", But if you check around there are a few of us that have done that same mod.

Looks like I jumped the gun

I searched but mostly came across handles that had been purchased from Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. Guess I should've dug a little deeper.

I ordered the Ranch Kettle handles a couple of weeks ago from Weber and just got them installed yesterday. No pics yet because I am still making some mods, but they work perfect. As D Arita says above, with these handles the cover still fits (although snug). I'm very happy with the decision to purchase these handles and put them on my 22.5.

Steve.
I'm not dissing your idea, just didn't get the purist mention.
If you could pull them off @ a better price than the above mentioned Ranch Handles than that would be swell.
Curious.. What is the total price for that Ranch Handle?
With the bracket, OEM handle, and all hardware included that's an easy fix IMO.

Thats it..Just $13 dollar?
Wish I would have known that before I made my own.
Sweet deal!
