Estimating remaining gas in a disposable cylinder

Picked up a great Q100 about a year ago at a yard sale for $25. I just use the regular propane cylinders since it is not my primary grill and doesn’t get too much use. Because I don’t use it constantly, plus I am starting to get old and forgetful, I can never remember how much use I have had on a particular cylinder. Anyone know a good way or some little trick to estimate how much gas is remaining in a disposable cylinder?

Don, keep a sharpie or other permanent marker with the grill. After each cook, just put a mark on the cylinder. That way, if you know you can get 5 cooks on a cylinder, you'll know right away if you need to have a backup nearby just by how many marks are on the side of the cylinder.

Here is a site - Site that describes the weight of empty and filled cylinders. If you take the cylinder off the q and weigh it on your kitchen scale you'll have agood idea how much propane is left.


Empty 384grams/13.54oz or 417grams/14.7oz depending on the type.
465grams/16.4oz of fuel is the capacity of the cylinder.

Full cylinder 849grams or 882grams.
