DIY OTS Smoker Conversion Oprions?

Hello All,

I recently grabbed a used OTS off CL and am in the process of rehabbing it to its baseline configuration and capability. I was wondering if anyone has entertained a conversion for the 22.5" OTS/OTG similar to the popular mini conversions being done on here? I have seen the Cajun Bandit and Smoke EZ after market upgrades but they are pricier than I can swing right now. Does anyone know of a cheaper DIY option for converting a Kettle to a drum smoker? Please advise.

Regards,

John

Here are some UDS builds I've done. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.281223688625453.67396.116187658462391&type=3

I've been building Big Drum Smoker clones using Weber parts. Also have a BPS drum and will soon be building a Hunsaker Smokers clone. I'm already using the Hunsaker Vortex firebasket in my 85 & 55 gallon drums and will be modifying one to use in a 22" WSM or Cajun Bandit. There are some Cajun Bandit conversions in the Albums so look around and hit me up if you have any questions.

I started smoking on a kettle last summer and got great results using many of these techniques:

Some good ways to smoke with little to no addl costs.

Thanks Charlie - I too have done a few smoke sessions on my kettle (I love the snake technique). It is difficult for me to cook enough food for my large family using an offset technique in the kettle. I am looking for a Cajun Bandit/Smoke-EZ type solution at a bargain price...

If you can find cheap barrels in your area then that might be your best bet. If you can get one that has a removable lid and the diameter is the same as your weber lid then you can do easy mods.
