Below is a link to the NPR article covering this massive recall. There are other ways to get this info if you are not a fan of NPR, but this is not a political topic so it’ll be ok;). They do a good job of providing the info and links needed to identify the 2,000,000+ units that are affected.

It’s not just the one in the picture, many brands and models are included, if you bought one after 2009, there’s a decent chance it’s on the list.

Our whirlpool model was on the list, and I returned it to Costco today after having it for 4 years, for a full refund, no receipt needed.

Good luck.

This issue has been out for a few years now. They were a certain lot made in China (figures). Funny thing MANY MANY years ago when I was a kid (about 7 or 8) we lived in a 2 flat in Chicago my dad owned with his friend. They had an enormous rain in August that year IIRC it was 1958. Our basement flooded due to backup. Well back in the day my dad was well connected to many businesses in Chicago. One of them was a company that made dehumidifiers. I think the name was Cory but I think they were part of the old Dormeyer company. Anyway that same unit he brought home back in 1958 is still going strong running in my basement as I type. It's a tank. But it still works. All metal, ungrounded no polarity cord. Totally unsafe LOL but it still works so well I don't dare touch it except to take it apart to clean the coils LOL
