CyberQ Wifi question

Am I understanding this correctly that you can run the CyberQ Wifi even without having it connected to a network. In other words, if I cant get it to run off my network can it still function? Kind of like a more expensive version of the DigiQ with more probes?
 
It does but please understand that even without it hooked to a network "Adhoc mode" you can still monitor your smoker from a Iphone/I pod or home PC/laptop but no Android devices
 
I was under the impression that while in infrastructure mode you could monitor the smoker with an android device. Is this not the case? That is a make or break decision for me since I do not have an iphone nor ipad
