Custom Cart Table

Hey folks... I'm in the midst of designing a custom table/cart for my 18" smoker and was wondering if its wise to build it out of wood. I saw a cart someone made of steel however I dont have the materials, tools and skills to weld one on my own. I thought making one out of wood would be just as good but was wondering how the heat may affect the overall stability.

Thanks in advance for the feedback!!

Please post pics of your build if you build it! At the heats the weber runs you should be able to build out of wood

Just leave some space between the cooker and any wood, maybe 2-4 inches around and/or line the openings nearest the cooker with some metal flashing.

On the bottom may want to add some metal pan or other non combustible material under the WSM in case any small embers fly out which is not likely but better to be on the safe side.

I'll 2nd the recommendation about under the cooker, however IMHO lit coals don't fall out of the WSM very often without the q'ers help.

I dont think that much side clearance is needed, at least heat-wise. I've cooked for years with a wooden replacement table on my One Touch Platinum. The original got busted while moving. The wood one has a 1 inch gap I've never had an problem, even with hotter temps on the grill.

Agree - as long as the wood doesn't actually touch the WSM there should be no issues.

To be safe, I would put some non-combustable covering on the base where the WSM stands, like a pan or grill mat trimmed to fit.

Thanks for the tips...

I'm actually in the midst of creating several different designs. I'll share them with you once I have a few mock ups created.

I've checked out some of the designs. They are pretty much the same with either the hole on the top or an opening to the front. Unfortunately, the bullet doesnt allow for much in creativity but I've managed to come of with 3 designs that seem to work so far. I'm just changing the length and width and seeing how that will affect the overall cost. I hope to have the 3 design plans finalized by the end of the week. Then the hard part begins
