Costco Sausages

So was at Costco Tuesday and I keep seeing their rather large boxes of fresh sausages (brats and Italian). While they look good I've always been hesitant to trust them. Usually going instead for ones made at one of the 2 meat shops I frequent. But, curiosity got the better of me, had my brother from another mother coming out yesterday since my wife is away visiting some of her family in MI. And I bought a box of the brats and the Italian.
What a surprise. Truly some of the best sausages I've ever bought and that's even coming from a guy who would buy them from not only my 2 local shops but from the Italian meat markets in Little Italy (west) along Harlem Ave between Foster and Diversey in Chicago.
Here to tell ya, I truly was shocked just how good these were. So, recommending if you're at Costco and you see those boxes of sausages and curiosity gets hold. Buy them. They're good

Not surprising! I know you don't do Walmart, but their Marketside brats are among the best I've ever had and rival Johnsonville, the baseline for good brats, any day of the week. They're also over a buck cheaper for a 19 oz, package.

A good friend, who passed away a couple of years ago, used to pay over $12/lb. for brats from a gourmet butcher in the Lake Tahoe area. Once he tasted the Marketside that cost about 1/3 of that, he was converted. Subjectivity aside, a higher price doesn't always mean higher quality.

Yeah, it's weird. Going into a Walmart here you feel like you're taking your life in your hands. Plus every one of them is filthy and literally disgusting. Rotten food laying around and so on. There is no redeeming value in stepping foot in one. Especially for food shopping
So for now I'm very pleased with the Costco offerings I picked up.

The wife made us Costco sausages for dinner last night.
We eat ours as beer brats.

They are so easy my wife actually did all the cooking.
How do you make your beer brats?
This is how we make ours.

1- can good beer (I prefer dark)
1-TBS butter
1-onion (chopped)
1-1/2 - TBS canola oil
4-5- brats

Toss it all into a pan.
Simmer down until the beer is gone.
Let the remaining oil sear the brats.
Flip brats as necessary then serve.

On another note,
I shop Walmart all the time but just for canned or boxed goods and sometimes fishing tackle, so basically just for packaged goods.
I kinda cringe at the meat department so I price check but don’t shop meat there.
Their fruits & veggies are a little better but not by much.
Everything from the watermelons to the onions just seems old there.
Maybe it’s just Washington.
Maybe it’s just living all these years in California has spoiled me produce wise.
🤷‍♂️.

When I do make them I typically simmer them in onion and beer. Nothing else. Then grill to finish. I know some do it in reverse but I like the "bite" on a grilled sausage. Last night though I did not do that. I simply tossed them onto Big Z and and they were incredible. Honestly best brats I ever made

Hopefully, this doesn’t detract from the main thread topic but it is at least sausage in content. I have found a breakfast sausage from Smithfield that is fantastic and have been sharing it with everyone. The photo shows the SKU for the 10# bulk box that we buy before vacuum sealing and freezing into smaller portions. They are far and away the best breakfast link I have ever had. Everyone I recommend them to seems to agree. Give them a try if you’re so inclined.

That's nice. I've never seen them anywhere. Sam's has a product Sam's sells this product of which I've bought them. They're quite good but I always ran into trouble storing them. I guess soon with a new sealer I'll have a better time of it
