Copying Commercial BBQ Sauce

My wife has been on me to stop buying commercial BBQ sauces because they contain all those evils of modern day like glucose-fructose and artifical colour and preservatives. So I winged it - President's Choice Tequila Habanero Sauce from "Real Canadian Superstore" (Big chain up here) was the first victim. I don't have exact proportions, but basically half a large bottle of organic (ya, I know...) ketchup - next time I'll use organic tomato paste - 1/2 cup brown sugar, about the same for cider vinegar, some low salt soya sauce for colour and Worchestershire. Used three or four medium size peppers, seeded and stemmed. And hey - use gloves when dealing with these and for heaven's sake DO NOT touch your eyes or nose! Oh, I diced and fried some onions in olive oil and black pepper and mixed them in. Since we like garlic, it was not added until later in the cooking before blending. I used 4 or 5 healthy cloves. Cooked it all up and when cool used the hand blender to emulsify it. Added about 1/2 cup Tequila. Oh my... off the hook. Stores for weeks and weeks in the fridge and blows the doors off the commercial stuff. If you don't make your own BBQ sauce, try. Stoopid (tm) simple and way better and better for you.
