I am sure that others have brought up this simple solution but I will share it. When it gets really cold here in Wisconsin I sometimes have trouble maintaining temperatures. About 5 years ago I was making meatloaf in my Brinkman at about midnight we had a torrential downpour. I had and extra lid off of a old 26" kettle grill. I put the 26" lid over the Brinkman to keep the water out. About 30 minutes later I took the lid off and the temp had went up about 70-80 degrees.
I often take the 26" lid and set it on top of my Performer, if I can't get out of the wind or a snowstorm. The extra lid does a wonderful job of insulation. I have used it once or twice on the WSM. But never in the wind, it makes it to top heavy.
