I ahve been seeing references to guys using clay/terra cotta flowerpot saucers in place of the water pan. I obviuosly didn't get the memeo because I ahve no idea what it's about. Is there a thread I can get to to get on board?

Just wondering if anyone knows how hot one of these clay saucers can get before they crack? Whether from direct fire or inderect heat. Thanks

Hotter than the WSM will go. I also use my clay saucer in my Kamado as a heat deflector on high heat cooks (Pizzas) and she's still in one piece. I've had her about 2 years now. I also take care to let her warm-up with the cooker vs. throwing her on a fire that's already raging.
