Cart for new Q 2200

I'm new to Weber grills and this site. I just bought a Q 2200 and discovered a broken off leg when I opened the box. I'm waiting for Weber to send me a rear craddle/leg frame replacement. In the meantime I bought a model #6549 cart after a customer service lady at Weber told me the 2200 would fit on it. I have since heard it won't fit and when I called Weber back for a second opinion they said the 2014 models will not fit on this cart. I know there is another cart model #6557 that will work but I like the one that just came UPS and is sitting in my garage still in the box. Any imput is appreciated.

I believe the new Q2200 models need the newer carts. There is a label on the outside that says specifically that it won't fit models that have the different emblem/logo.

As ChangL told you, the 2014 model year grills won't fit on the older #6549 cart.

This is one thing that upsets me this year about Weber, that they made the Q series not backwards compatible. And it's for no other reason than to make the consumer spend more money.

The feet on the old Qs vs. new Qs are different if you look closely. I recently grabbed up one of the old carts (6549) because I've wanted one for a while and in these parts (Ontario) the old carts were becoming hard to find - it took some leg work.

The new carts are about $20 more than the old and they do look a bit more substantial. Not good on the Weber rep. to not be aware of the difference in their products. I'd return it (if possible) or sell it on CL......and get the new style cart that will fit your 2200. I think you'll have little trouble selling it because as I said, there are still LOTS of "old" style Q owners with great grill with years of service left in them and very few carts available for them.

Not having an old Q model to compare I don't know what the difference in the legs actually is but like KevinH says Weber changed the design just enough to figure out how to make more money selling accessories.

More expensive yes, more substantial no….they are just as flimsy as the previous versions.

Yep, they changed the Q design just enough to make more money selling accessories like newer more expensive carts. Also, I noticed that the 6549 cart got better reviews(sturdier etc.) than the 6557(newer one) and I'm annoyed that they did that..

I have the old cart and find it pretty solid considering it's foldable. Certainly not as solid as my 320's cart. My statement of "more substantial" is not from experience just a visual observation that the new design "LOOKS beefier".....that's a term that may work well in this group ;). But.....looks can be deceiving.

I do think it was pretty lame that Weber made such a minor design change at the feet of the Q's to warrant an entirely new cart.

Weber has two types of carts for the Q series. Troy's photo is that of the stationary cart, which is meant to be sturdier and designed more for permanent placement of your grill. The Weber 6557 model is the foldable one, which is designed for easy transport.

Yes the OP is not talking "stationary" carts. We're talking folding carts:

I gotta admire a guy who keeps his Weber so clean and shiny he can keep it in his living room. A man after my own heart. Weber Furniture???? Hmmmm. :wsm::cool:

A word of caution about replacing the front leg frame assembly. I had to do this once after a "friend" dropped my grill as we were setting up for tailgating. It was filled with firebricks, so it was heavier than it looked.

So I went over to the parts department in Palatine and I bought the leg assembly and went home to fix her up. I wasn't cautious enough with taking off the spark igniter, and I broke the little teeth that clip it to the leg assembly. Back to the part dept for a new igniter button.

Of course, if your broken leg assembly is the back legs, this is irrelevant to you, since the ignition is on the front.

Verdict is in.

Thankks for everyones imput. My rear leg assembly has been swapped out. When I put the cart together my grill seemed to fit on the cart ok, not like a glove but ok. The front legs fit under the tabs which keeps the grill from moving toward the rear of the cart and the rear legs fit on the outside of the rear plastic zig zag shaped plastic pieces keeping the grill from moving forward. I'm not sure why the said it wouldn't fit but mine fits good enough to use at home or the campground so let the grilling begin!
