Can I use a kettle as a WSM


 
Derek, I was wondering the same thing. I acquired a new middle section as well. I looked at the 18.5 kettle and the lid and base is shallower. I'm guessing it would work just not sure as well as the regular WSM. Let me know if you give it a whirl and have any luck, the water pan may be a problem area as well, Ken
 
You can try.

The pieces may not mate up very well. THe lid to a kettle sits over the rim of the kettle bottom.

The lid of the WSM sits inside the rim of the mid section, so that any liquid will drip down and stay inside the unit.

You may have to fashion a makeshift ring of aluminum foil to mate the pairs up. I think it would work, and it may be sufficient for your needs.
 
The kettle lid will NOT fit the WSM mid section, however the mid section will fit on top of the kettle bottom.
