Before I ignite my new Performer: Is my gas hose and orifice correctly connected?

I am assembling my Weber Performer Deluxe grill, and noticed that when the gas hose metal assembly is fully inserted into the orifice tube and the retaining clip is snapped in place, there are still openings in the orifice tube, where the gas could exit. See my photo attached where one can see through the openings in the tube. Isn't this dangerous, is it supposed to be this way?

Any comments or guidance is welcome before I take the risk of turning the ignition on!
