In general, over time, does banking charcoal on the same side of the kettle affect anything, as far as kettle durability? Just curious...

I've had my platinum for about 6 years and most of my cooks are with the coals banked.

The banked side, there is no difference but on the cooking side, there is a build-up of gunk from the drippings. I don't use a drip pan often.

So now every now and then I'll bank on the oppisite side, just to burn some of the gunk off.

I alternate sides on my grill. And I'm kinda concerned about the heat of the coals lying directly against the porcelain, so I move them away from direct contact. I guess I don't "bank" the coals as much as I build my fire on one side of the grill, but I still keep the higher pile of coals closer to the side, and "taper" the stack towards the middle. Really not as much of a PITA as it sounds...
