Another question about wood for tables

Thanks for all your help in advance.

I am going to restore a redhead Genesis I bought. I am going to use cedar 1 X 2 boards for the tables. After I sand them smooth and cut them to size, what should I use to preserve them? I didn't think I should use my TWP deck sealant. What would you guys do?

I'll post pics when complete!

If you keep it covered "out of the weather" any clear coat will last for quite awhile. Exposed to the elements? Most clear coats last a year, semi transparent 2-3 and solid stains 3-4.
I'll look forward to you're pics on the resto!

There really isn't a product that will outlast the elements and I have tried most of them. Also, what kind of finish are you looking for? Oiled or a vanish type? I may try teak for some new OTG handles with teak oil finish, but that won't hold up to weather very long without attention. At least when teak gets dark you can clean it and apply more oil without stripping, etc.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll try the teak or tung oil! It will be covered by a weber cover and stored on my patio under my deck. I have a walk out lower level...
