so the other day i was cooking on my RED q220. i noticed the heat not getting up there as usual but otherwise things went well, sorta. i looked carefully at the burner and noticed a lot of no flame areas. so later on i checked the burner tube. looked clean but for some reason there were sections of the tube that the holes were plugged. kinda interesting in that three months earlier had cleaned them out. hmmmm. well i took a small drill bit and cleaned them out again. don't really need to tell ya that the cleaning made a big differance.
so look closely at the tube and holes. some looked open but were actually partially closed so don't be fooled by that, do every single hole. then enjoy !

Thats the main reason I don't care for the Q Grills.
Why didn't weber come up with a heat shield like the flavorizer bars?
I guess they like selling the burner tubes instead.
I also don't like their cooking grates on these. Seem inferior in quality..
Just my 2 sense..

actually i really like my/the q's. darn good grills. the grate acts as a shield but i'm guessing the fumes tend to burn at the holes. the tube is ss so it should last a very long time. the grates do very well. just keep them oiled and there is no problems. stuff does build up but its easy to break off. since i've been using a ss brush i've had very little problems keeping the grate clean.

What sized bit did you use George? I do my Q burners about once a year or whenever I notice the temps are slow to come up to where I want them. I've been using a piece of wire but something stiffer, like a drill bit would definitely be an improvement.

Thanks,

Pat

I haven't had my Q100 very long, but I have used it several times.I have has several gas grills in my 69 years and I can honestly say this is the very best gas grill I have ever owned. With that said ...a little maintance along is worth it.I have had a mini drill set like that for years...if I can find it.
