Adjust Door Or Door Opening? Body Shop Help!

I just got my CB Stainless door and tried a fit. Much to my disappointment, it was worse off than my OEM door. I thought about sending it back, but the shipping to and from would end up being close to the price of the door, so I decided to try to fit it.
After going at it for a while with my dead blow hammer and sand bag, I realized something. I realized that I wasn't fitting a misshapen door, but rather fitting a door to a misshapen opening. After realizing that, I wished I had some body work experience to make working on the body of the 22" WSM a little less stressful.
I don't know whether the opening was cut before the flat sheet was rolled into a barrel shape or if the opening was cut after the barrel was made. Whichever it was, the opening was deformed and doesn't quite follow the roundness of the barrel, especially along the lip of the opening.
So, any hints or tips from those with body shop experience?

D,how long have you had the WSM? If you are having issues with out of round or something else, call Weber customer service. I'm sure they can either help with an answer or possibly a new part!

Im with Phil! Contact Weber. A pic of the unit is what they will ask for. Mail it to them and pls post it here so we can take a look.

Weber normaly dont wanna hve stuffs returned.(shiping costs and so on) But try to roll the middle section on the floor and put some pressure on the "high" spot. Migt work to get the out of round shape back to normal.

I don't thinks it's just my unit. Everyone that has problems with the door and posted pics, seems to have similar issues. Seems that the door top on the right side, is the hardest to get to lay down. I think it's because the opening lip flairs out on top, holding the door open on that side.
Anyways, I'll bet that's the case with many units, but only a few anals, like me, complain about it.

Mike Durso is the engineer who helped out on the newer WSM's .
There is a Q&A segment on the forums here.
If you scroll through both pages, there are a couple of posts that deal with your same issues.
I shouldn't of really said that "answers" your problems, more that what you found out is probably more of the norm i.e its not always a misshapen door, but more of an out of true opening or mid-section.

Thanks for the link. So, it seems Weber does acknowledge a door opening issue on some units. Maybe I can call Weber and get a replacement center section...one that is true.

I would. There is only so much that one can do to try to tweak a WSM to your standards. You paid a decent amount of cash for that unit, and you tried to make it work as best as you can.
IMO I would think tat Weber CS would be more than happy to send you a replacement, if you told them of the same problems you are having here.
Good Luck!

Tim
