Hello everyone!
I just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Weston and I live in Salt Lake City Utah. As of Saturday March 19th I became the proud owner of my FIRST Weber grill! I finally bit the bullet and sprung for a 2011 Weber Genesis E-310 with cast iron grates. I have owned a couple different grills and smokers in the past, but this is my first Weber. I wanted an all around grill that I can use year round for fantastic results. I avoided charcoal since I grill out 4-5 times a week and charcoal at that rate would get to be expensive…also we have a lot of cold weather out here so having a grill that allows me to step outside and fire up then run back inside where it is preheating is a must! I also wanted cast iron grates sense they seem to be the best overall choice assuming you don’t mind seasoning them and caring for them on a regular basis.
Like I said before, I have owned other grills so while I am new to Weber I know my way around a grill
Here is what I have noticed with other grills like Kenmore or Char-broil: You either get fantastic food or you get good food. From I can tell, if you really watch what you are doing and get a bit of luck with the weather you can get great food on these lesser grills, but must of the time the inferior products don’t hold the heat well, have a cold spot, vary in cooking times and thus result in food that is good…but not great. Although I have only used the Weber a handful of times one thing has become clear: great food every time! When I put a steak down, I know that the spot I chose is just as hot as any other spot on the grate. When I walk inside I know the temp I have will hold. When I preheat I know how long it will take and that I can trust the temp gauge. The bottom line is the Weber does what it is supposed to do and other grills sometimes do what they are supposed to do, but often times they don’t- they underperform and we get food that is just “good” but not great!
Funny story how I ended up with my Weber… A week before I purchased it I bought a Char-broil 4 burner with searing burner (non-IR) and side burner for $399.00. I was so excited and I figured it would out perform my old Kenmore and produce more consistent results. Boy was I wrong! It UNDER-performed cheaper grills I had owned in the past. Flare-ups were uncontrollable, it took forever to heat up and could not avoid hot and cold spots with all burners on the same setting. So after using it a few times I took it back, got my money back and that is when I decided to truly upgrade and get a Genesis! Now every time I use it I know where that extra $300 went- QUALITY. Oh and I got a Weber grill out light for the handle….that thing is awesome!! Anywho, I just wanted to say hello and I hope to start posting pics of great food made on my new Genesis!!
Happy Grilling,
Weston
