Hello I have a 22" One Touch and a 18 3 wheel. It seems like the 22.5 gets a much higher temperature which is good for steaks. Am i missing something to gets the 3 wheel up to searing hot?

Both using a full chimney of fuel, it seems the 22 gets much hotter.

maybe cuz its bigger ? i havn't noticed any differance between my 22 ot and my 22 3 wheeler.
i prefer the 3 wheeler for smoking and the ot is ok for grilling and such. how are you placing the coals ?

I let most of them get lit in the chimney then pour them evenly. over the charcoal grate.

I think I am not getting optimal airflow. Even when I clean the 3 wheel it seems to smoke more while the one touch does not.

thats it !
some like the ot but i prefer the 3 wheeler. not sure why. thats why i got both !

fred, are you refering to grilling with the charcoal spread out evenly over the whole grate ? i can kinda see that the ot might get more air but i just havn't noticed any issues. i usually smoke/grill indirect. coals on one side(my left) and cook on the right half.

I was wondering the same thing. A year ago I purchased an older three wheeler used, and just lately I purchased a performer. The perforemre reaches temps that I never dreamed of in the three wheeler.

Fred - just for kicks, try using less charcoal in your 18 incher. Use just enough to get a nice even layer across the charcoal grate instead of a full chimney.

I noticed using my Smokey Joe that the temps weren't getting as high as on my performer and I finally figured out I was using too much charcoal, which seems to have been inhibiting airflow and slowing down the charcoal combustion.

I cut back on the charcoal and the little guy will hold 500 degrees plus for over an hour.
