I mounted a Weber Summit thermometer and bezel on the lid of my old 26" Bar-B-Q-Kettle in the same spot as the 26.75" OTG, but when I use it with the char-rails for indirect grilling I want the vent in the center over the drip pans which positions the thermo over the direct coals. Which basically pegs it.
So for the last few indirect grilling cooks I've done, I fastened a strip of expando to the charcoal rails and use just one side of the kettle and position the vent opposite the coals and the thermo isn't directly over the coals.
I never really gave it much thought before because all I had to go by was the 22". Since the Performer thermo face is opposite the vent, but the probe is near it. It just seems weird to me how they decided on the placement for the OTG.
Any thoughts?
