did they make one with out a thermometer mounted in the lid ?

The thermo wasn't added until a couple of years ago. Prior to that there was not one in the lid.

Years ago Weber made a 'Mastertouch', which was what the OTG should have been. It not only had a lid thermo, but a wire lid holder just like the Performer.
