2015 lid bale on master touch vs performer.

Hello, I bought a master touch that I am loving and before buying it a few places mentioned that for 2015, weber really improved the angle of the tuck away lid bale.

I assumed my 2015 master touch had that improvement but it looks like it is the older version that does not keep the lid out of the way completely like a 2015 performer would. I asked weber if this is true, and they said it does indeed look to be different even though they did not know about the difference. Anyways, weber could sell me the lid bale for the performer except it would void out my warranty completely because it is a part not meant for the master touch.

Am I able to upgrade this outside of weber knowing? Is it even possible? The mounting points look to be the same.

My understanding is the holes in the 2015 Performer are drilled closer together as measured around the circumference of the kettle. This along with the new style lid bale assembly are what give the bigger gap between the kettle edge and the lid bale allowing the lid to be more out of the way. Most Weber parts suppliers like ereplacements do not seem to be able to get parts newer than 2013. Maybe their agreement with Weber. Weber is a stickler about selling only parts for grills you have registered with them. Besides, Weber WILL know if you buy it from another source and black surveillance helicopters will appear over your home.... just kidding.

The master touch may not have the newer style lid bale because it could be too much of the lid hanging out there and the grill does not have the weight and stability of the performer. I have heard the new master touch grills because of the height are little top heavy as is. This is just a guess and it could be something totally different.

Joe, I posted some info about the 2015 Performer lid bale in another thread you were asking about it.

Joe, on a 2015 performer, the holes that the lid bail go into are about 18-3/8 to 18-1/2 inches apart, measured in a straight line from hole to hole, not along the circumference. That should help you out, I hope.
