Stoker Networking Help - Stoker and other web server

I already have a web server behind my DLink DIR 655 router and all traffic on Port 80 is currently being sent to the web server. I want to be able to access the Stoker from outside of my local network. Is there a way to direct incoming web traffic on a different port (I have seen addresses such as http://www.server.com:5000) and then redirect that port to the Stoker? I am using a dynamic DNS service to redirect traffic to the IP that is picked up through DHCP on the router so I plan to just use the same address and just change the port at the end. Any help and direction would be appreciated.

I am generally pretty computer savvy I just can't figure out if this is the right way to go. Any help is appreciated.

Should be easy enough to do. Somewhere in your router config there'll be something called "Port Forwarding". You should be able to have it forward the external port (5000) and then it will have a field to enter the address and port of where you want it forwarded to. This is where you'd put the IP of the Stoker and its port (80). The thing you might run into down the line is that some other device took the IP you originally set up for the Stoker and it would stop "working" from the outside. Look in your router documentation for anything about "DHCP reservation" so you can always have the Stoker end up on the same IP if you don't feel like setting it on the Stoker itself.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to set a static ip on the Stoker and then I will port forward the traffic there. I will post when I have it setup.

Ok, I tried to set it up and I cannot get it to work.

I want to set it up so that incoming traffic on a certain port is forwarded to the Stoker.

I have a static IP on the Stoker. I set up port forwarding on my router to forward requests on port 81 to my Stoker. I then rebooted the router and waited. I then opened a browser and entered http://[my ip address]:81 and it did not work. What am I missing?

NOTE: I already have another server that port 80 requests are forwarded to and my ISP claims that they do not block any ports.

Help, please.

I can connect at the static IP address from within the local network. The Stoker is on and I have the port forwarding set up. I just cannot connect through the public ip.

Another call for help. This is where I stand.

1. Stoker is set to a static IP and is accessible from within the LAN.
2. Router is configured for MAC address DHCP reservation to always recognize the Stoker on its IP address.
3. I configured Virtual Server on my DIR-655 so that incoming traffic at my router IP address on port 8080 is redirected to the Stoker's LAN IP address at port 80.
4. Stoker is turned on.

I cannot access the Stoker from a public ip or outside the LAN.

Help. Please.

I wonder if it's a DIR-655 issue? I have a 655 and a mediasmart server that I have on port 80. I can easily access the MSS from the outside but no matter what port I forward to the stoker it just isn't found. FWIW comcast is my isp.

If you find a solution please post as I have been futzing with this for a couple of months now.

I am starting to think that it is the Router. I switched the port forwarding on port 80 to point to the SToker and it still does not work. There must be another setting that I cannot figure out. I may call Dlink or email John Jackson at Stoker. I will keep everyone posted.

I can access the stoker from port 80 but then I lose outside access the MSS, I just can't access the stoker from any other port. Your problem may be different than mine. I keep thinking I'll get to it but I'm just far too busy to mess with it right now.

I happen to be cooking today and am at work so I thought I would give this another go.

My findings so far...

I can't get access the Stoker via port forwarding, stokerlog or http.

I can access the stoker if access it via virtual server, http mode only, if I try telnet I can't access. To do so go to advanced -> virtual server then set up your stoker using http, set protocol to both. I have my public port at 100 (arbitrary), and my private port to 80. To use stokerlog you must access via http.

good luck

O.K. I got it to work. I had to put the Stoker in the DMZ and everything is fine now. Give that a try and see if it works for you.

GOT IT. Thank you Joe.

I got everything set up and finally made it work. My problem: the Stoker was not set up for DHCP. I read that a while ago and I forgot to do it. I followed the directions in the Stoker manual and it worked like a champ.

Thank you everyone for the help.
