The Adapt-a-Damper - Open Source Project

I would like to print a Adapt-a-Damper but because I have to use a 3d print service I would like to make really sure to have selected the right parts to be printed. Preconditions: BBQ-Guru ceramic style adaptor RDTC-board V6.3 Delta 50mm 6.7cfm orderer from Bryan with the HM-Kit Part list...

    Case for RDTC board v6.3

I used the minion ring/ snake method with 3-4 layers. Once I had to add to the ring mid cook. Because of the bad insulation, you need more briquettes in winter to maintain the right temperature. But in terms of wind I cannot compete with the Windy City :-) This is a problem if it comes to hold...

    Case for RDTC board v6.3

Today I finished soldering my RDTC board and started to wire up the Heatermeter and add the rocker switch to choose from internal vs. external TC pit probe. Is there a case design available for using the board standalone (w/o attaching it to a damper)? I found one for the v5 version of the...

    RDTC boards arrived

Found a better solution: a guy in a German electronics forum collects orders from other forum members and does order from Mouser every Monday, if the volume exceeds 65€. The process is kind of semi-automated. Shipping costs are very low.

    RDTC boards arrived

Mouser has a german website and a branch in Munich, not sure where they ship from. I already tried to find the needed parts at different german electronic suppliers, but was not successful for most of the parts :( They charge 20€ if the order is <60€. Will try to find some tools to order with my...

Thanks Ralf! That's what I guessed, but looking at the shipping costs Mouser is charging I wanted to be sure :)

    RDTC boards arrived

Going to order the parts from Mouser, there are two types of 2.5mm jacks in the project (I'm going to build the board w/ two thermistors and TC): If https://www.mouser.de/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=161-3403-Evirtualkey11180000virtualkey161-3403-E is available I can omit...

    RDTC boards arrived

Would this rocker switch work (for toggling internal external TC)? http://www.mouser.de/ProductDetail/CW-Industries/GRS-4012-1600/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtNT9UGfLL4eOd3cDQgL8vMHmakO2EUOts%3d Data sheet: http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/97/GRS-4012-XXXX-257541.pdf

    RDTC boards arrived

9/24 I ordered a batch of three "Heatermeter Adapter Boards V6.3" from OSH Park - they ship worldwide at no extra cost - nice. Shortly after that I got an email, that my order was upgraded to super swift service at no extra cost - even nicer. Today I received the letter with the boards. Now I...

PID acts different w/ different pit probes?

That would mean, PID calculation and PID suggestion use different sources. Yes, ~2hrs from when the cold solder joint stopped my TC pit probe until I noticed and switched over (hopefully my neighbors didn't spot me, running in my pajamas at 4am around the patio ;-) ). My servo closed position...

PID acts different w/ different pit probes?

I was thinking into this direction: Maybe there is a difference in how the inputs (TC and thermistor) are treated in the PID algorithm? Or maybe there is a problem with changing pit probe from one input to another mid cook w/o restarting the HM (an offset not cleared, probeType not reset, ...)...

PID acts different w/ different pit probes?

Started two Boston butts with my Weber kettle last weekend with the following PID settings: P=15 I=0.001 D=20 and posted it to the live HM thread. Bryan suggested to set I=0.08 which brought the pit temperature closer to set point (~midnight). I went to bed and when I looked at the graph at...
