SMD Heatermeter on a RPI B+? Yes, it can be done......

Hey Peter, Nice! I'm building another now (based on your latest PCB) and have a few minor points: * The 1N4001 diode is a through-hole component in the Mouser project vs a surface mount * C13 has a value of 100n vs 0.1u like the rest of the decoupling caps. That cap is also not listed in the...

ya...that's on the list. need to pick up a dust collector for the CNC machines first.

SMD Heatermeter on a RPI B+? Yes, it can be done......

This build has finally convinced me to buy a hot air rework station and maybe make reflow oven + get a vinyl cutter for solder mask stencils. I hand soldered 3 of them and fixing bridged pads on that atmega is loads of fun... @CHeathman I assume you DIYed it?

SMD Heatermeter on a RPI B+? Yes, it can be done......

I wasn't really thinking of using 4-layer for size reduction but more for noise/EMI control. Note that I haven't done any work on actually trying to reroute the board and look at noise so take this with a grain of salt. That's actually why I want to mess with an Edison (thing is about as big...

SMD Heatermeter on a RPI B+? Yes, it can be done......

Haha, looks like I should have posted this before I placed my order. I'd actually like to route those extra pins directly instead of via solder pads. There's also that capacitor that needs to be moved and that trace switch. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure I'll have to re-route the board which...

Hmm, I didn't realize that was an issue. That'll be a bit harder to move. My OSH Park order already went to the fab so no fixing it for this order at least. You been seeing issues on the shift register with that cap so far away?

v6.2 I made a few small updates to the v6.1 design: Switched to tented vias Broke out the remaining 4 RJ45 pins to solder pads OSH Park project: https://oshpark.com/shared_projects/6VXPWWjp Eagle files: https://www.dropbox.com/s/h53mtvkdkjf6k93/HM50SMD_C_V6.2.zip?dl=0

Is the v6.1 Mouser project complete? It looks like it is missing some things (for example IC3, 4, and 5 are all missing). It looks like there'd be room for some solder pads for the remaining 4 pins on the CAT5 jack on the opposite side of the board. From there, you should be able to do a wire...

HM for a B+(work in progress)

Did you change the design to use the SMC switch? The through-holes are nearly impossible to get now. Mind sharing the design? I'm looking to do a build and using a B+ and SMC components is fairly attractive.
