    Scandalous Controversy

I'm sure I'm going to get alot of heat for this one but here goes. Over the weekend I used my Summit Platinum C4 to slow cook a small stuffed Boston Butt roast. I let my wood chips soak for about 3 hours and turned my smoker burner and far right burner all the way to low. I put my roast on at...

    Preheating and other preparations

I've had my Summit Platinum C4 for a few years now and after some experimentation I have found solutions to two problems I had relying on Weber publications (brochures,books,etc.). The first has to do with preheatin the grill. I've read time and time again that you need to preheat with all...

    Dropped my OTG lid tonight

I had a similar misfortune shortly after purchasing my performer. When I told CS about the accident the rep said that the grill was too new so she sent me a replacement lid, pronto. I was in a new Williams Sanomma store yesterday and I told the manager the same story. (They just started...

    Steaks and Flare Ups

Thanks to all for their replies/opinions. Paul's comment about my flavorizer bars being clean got me to check them out. There was a bit of gunky grease/charred debris on them so I cleaned them with a steel brush. I'm hoping that clean bars together with high temps will result in drippings...

    Steaks and Flare Ups

I have tried many things to keep from having flare ups when searing steaks. My latest strategy, used last night, was to turn all of my burners (on a 4 burner Summit Platinum)on high to preheat to 450. When the grill reached that temp I turned off my two right burners and turned on the left to...

    Another Weber Testimony

I've had similar stunning service before. A couple of months after having my Performer I was sliding over the lid in the cradle and the lid handle was hot. Anyway the lid fell on my concrete patio and got chipped in several places. I called Weber to get some touch up paint and the rep I spoke...

Just bought Smokey Joe Platinum 18.5

I too love mine. It's a great size for a cookout with friends. I have had absolutely no problems with it reaching and maintaining high enough temps. In fact my latest cook with stuffed pork chops I used a chimney full of coals and closed off one side of the air openings, had the other side...

Have Smokey Joe Platinums been discontinued???

Bought mine last year and I couldn't be happier. I find I'm able to achieve and maintain high temps and with an 18" cooking grate I'm able to cook for a small gathering while picnicking or camping.

    '07 Summit

Just visited Weber's website; the new models are on display. They look good. Can't wait to see them in person to compare build quality to "old" models. I would appreciate if anyone with information on the 07 models would share their knowledge and comments.

New 2007 Genesis - Regular vs. Premium

I called Weber last night. The rep told me that the new models will continue (I assume for the time being at least) to be made in the U.S. I thought for sure that with the new models costing less than the comparable "old" models that they were going to be manufactured overseas. Anyway from...

New 2007 Genesis - Regular vs. Premium

I sold a Jenn Aire last year to buy a Summit Platinum C4. From the looks of the new Summit I wonder where they will be manufactured- Outsourced?

    Propane usage

Ron, at $20 with a D6, what's your summer bill look like. BTW I pay around $15 refill or exchange.

    Warming Rack Usage

I've use my fixed warming rack a couple of times to toast hamburger buns. Works well and doesn't take long. I believe mine are made of SS because they so no signs of rust just like the rest of the components on my Summit Platinum.

SMOKEY JOE PLATINUM AIR FLOW PROBLEM

If we're still on the subject of steaks, I grilled some on my Summit C-4 a couple of weekends ago. Prime rib-eye two and a half inches thick over two pounds a piece. Preheated grill to 450. Seared for 4 and one half minutes a side (there were flare ups with this high fat content meat so I...

Couple noob questions about Summit Platinum B6

I have the Summit C-4. I wish I had sprung for the D-6 for more space, but more importantly for the latter's flexibility. As Mr. Osbourne notes you can modulate the temps more easily for the D-6. Also, when doing a brisket you can maintain very low temps by using burners 1 and 6 or the smoker...

    Summit Grill Review

I bought the Summit C-4 about a year ago. Extremely good grill but I wish I had sprung the extra $600 for the D-6 for the primary reason that you have so much room and versatility for indirect cooking. The C-4 and the updated version the D-4 just doesn't have that extra grill space for a large...

SMOKEY JOE PLATINUM AIR FLOW PROBLEM

Paul, I think you are right on the money. Don't spare the coals and you'll get the temp you need. Thanks for the response.

SMOKEY JOE PLATINUM AIR FLOW PROBLEM

I agree with Chris K. Have been having my SJ Platinum for 2 years now and I can't think of any time when the temp was a problem. A couple of weeks ago I used the SJ as a secondary grill to my Performer while barbequeing chicken. I used a full Weber chimney and put 2 large fryers on it and the...

    Weber Customer Service scores again

Wow! What a story. My personal experience with their serivce and their standing by their product has been amazing considering what I've come to expect of other companies. But to get a free burner set after 4 years- again, WOW! No wonder they have such brand loyalty. By the way, I was talking...

    another grate ?????

For some reason I have been having better sucess with the smoker box on my Summit Platinum C4. Seems like I get the desired smokey flavor that I didn't get when the grill was new. I'm wondering if the grease build up on the interior of the hood has anything to do with it?
