Try cat'ing in one, and echoing into it in the other.

Check the bootloader on your Atmega, I had an issue where I had burned the bootloader with the baud rate set too slowly so I got gibberish like that.

RaspberryPi + LinkMeter blue sky discussion

You're up and running... I got notification that I should be able to order sometime in August with a 12 week lead time. And that's just for the B model.. Lame!

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 2

Dragged my smoker over to my girlfriend's house this weekend, and despite not being able to connect to it via wireless (I forgot that the LAN defaults to 192.168.200.1, so I couldn't figure out how to connect via ethernet), I plugged the HM in and tried my hand at smoking an 11lb shoulder and a...

Note: That part is optional if you're not building a standalone HeaterMeter. If you're tossing it in a router, you won't even need it.

Did anyone see the Adafruit protoboard for Raspberry Pi yet? https://plus.google.com/u/0/11...91/posts/E3pH4mJRN4U

I'd make it more random, like 12345 or 9000. 8080 is a commonly used port for web proxies (something bots also like to scan for). You can forward port 9000 externally to port 80 internally, so if you wanted to access it remotely you'd hit port 9000, or port 80 if you were home.

I've seen something similar on my build. Sometimes I plug in the barrel connector and it springs to life. Other times I have to replug a few times to get the HM to fire up. The barrel connector power line isn't flaky as far as I can tell either. Not a dealbreaker for me, but might be...

I'm not sure I'd have any real use for LEDs, but I was thinking that some type of mobile notification (SMS would probably be easiest) would be awesome. If I'm going to be doing an overnight smoke, I'd love to get paged if there was a large temperature swing. It would be pretty easy to write a...

Bryan, I never knew you were a goon! I was browsing GwS earlier and clicked into the smoking thread and lo and behold, HeaterMeter!

I used a ribbon cable to connect my board to the serial port on the router, and just put a piece of gaffer's tape on the bottom of the board so it wouldn't short anything.

You ought to be able to shoehorn it into pretty much any wrt router.

One thing I noticed: It's $35, but the product number leads me to believe that it's the lesser "A" model which is supposed to be $25. </div></BLOCKQUOTE> I'm not sure how they setup the product number but under the features it does claim 2 USB ports + an ethernet port, which is just on the...

Blast, I didn't know they were going to be putting them up for order. Sounds like it turned out to be a real fiasco...

I ended up buying 2s, 5s, and 6s since having all 3 sizes means you're not using 6 pins on your serial connection, but aren't stuck using 2 pins for your LCD.

Thanks guys, that fixed it! Although I did brand my router case with my soldering iron when I was sleepily desoldering that resistor this morning. Can you fix that too?

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

Apparently I have something goofy with my probe wiring. So when I wired these up, I grounded all 3 of my probe jacks together, then connected a 10k resistor to the ground and the top pin of the pit probe jack. The other top pins of the other probes are unused. Then I have each bottom pin running...
