Don't think the Weber cleaner is going to be some magic potion. When I rehabbed one of this style/color grills, I ended up painting it black.

I'm not a fan of the newer Weber (08-14) grill casters. The older grills, with 8" wheels on one end are much easier to move around. I use my tailgate for the Q so I can't comment on their cart. ;)

Now that you mention it, VHT was the high-heat paint I used on the grill firebox & lid end panels.

That model Gold is fairly rare, especially in the maroon color. The frame is an offshoot from the Genesis Platinum. From the photo, it appears to be in really good condition already. Having the interior coated with grease will help preserve things. ;) Looking forward to the rehab! Congrats...

Welcome to the forum Brian. I've rehabbed a number of gassers so I enjoy when others want to take on the task. :) They're pretty simple machines once you get into it. Ask any questions here and you'll most likely get a response from experience. For cleaning... I have a big rubbermaid type...

You'll either spend it now, or in a handful of years anyway. Even living in a shed, once they start to rust there ain't no turning back. I vote for the SS (I've purchased SS from ebay which wasn't rcplanebuyer and happy)

I have a flat bar which has a notch cut into it. I place that notch on the shaft of the caster and give a good smack to the flat bar and the caster pops out every time.

As a fellow rehabber myself, I enjoy seeing others doing the same. If you need new casters, Home Depot has them for 5 bucks. :)

Nice pick-up! The bottom panel (cabinet) is the weak-link of this model. The one I had (2010) needed a new panel last year as it was toast. Keep an eye on it and don't be afraid to tear it apart to add a fresh coat of paint.

It's not that the stock thermos are that inaccurate, but rather where they're located in relation to where you're cooking. To answer your question, no - I don't know of a digital replacement. (unless you wanna use the Maverick ET-733)

It's simple to replace the crossover tubes and those are the first to go. Not always necessary to replace the main tubes.
