HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

Well I think I am going to have to order me another RPi, there must be something wrong with the one I have. I have tried it with 5 different SD card brands, at 3 different capacities, with the exact same result in every case. All the SD cards I got are on the "approved" list of cards so it just...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

I was doing voltage checks while I was waiting on your reply. Everything appears to be ok. I get exactly 5.0v on the test points on the RPi. I also get the voltages on the GPIO pins as shown below. I am going to go hunt down a different SD card and a new card reader as mine does not read the HC...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

Well I tried it without the heatermeater connected and have the exact same issues, there is no change at all. And I was mistaken earlier, the latest version is the one that gives me the most issues. I can get to the config page only, if I try to go to any other tabs or links I get this error...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

Thanks for the help Bryan, I am going to start on the hardware end tonight and see if I can get this thing sorted out. I have a feeling my impatience with the solder thing may have bit me in the @#$ on this. Hopefully I can get it sorted, otherwise I'll just start over on one of my other boards...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

I am no networking mastermind for sure lol! I had the same issues even with the wireless dongle removed from the RPi. I'll have time to mess with it this week, based on your comment it sounds like a communication problem, which is probably a hardware issue of some sort so I will concentrate my...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

I was connected to it straight from my laptop through a small switch I have. No router, internet connection etc. I had the laptop set at 192.168.1.2 and then just accessed it through browser at the 192.168.1.1 I did notice it doing some things differently when I used IE vs. Firefox vs. Chrome...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

Yes those are the openwrt images I was using. The one with the 1 in it is the one that gives me the most trouble, I can log in to it at 192.168.1.1 the main page is all blank, no values for anything. I can then click on the configuration link and it takes me to the linkmeter page, it is also...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

I am having similar no pit probe problems, even with a probe properly inserted it still says no pit probe. I did manage to get it up and running and can access the thing via a browser but when trying to change things on the config page like the probe, fan speed, etc the button at the bottom that...

Disregard - I just remembered there was a potentiometer on the board to adjust the contrast.....all is well......LOL

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

The files you linked to above are the output files for the 3d printer correct? I thought you mentioned earlier that you may also provide the actual model files? Did you give those out and I missed it or were you still planning on it? If not no biggie, I was just curious. I was going to do a case...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

Unfortunately there is no easy method that I am aware of to emboss an image. If the "artwork" was done as a vector graphic I have had some luck in the past exporting it out of Photoshop or illustrator as an .eps bringing it into AutoCAD, doing some work on it there, saving it as a dwg, and then...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

Nice! I use Autodesk Inventor daily in my work, as well as a lot at home on stuff. Got to love the way technology has made life so much easier for those of us that design stuff, I remember using a drafting board and pencils, and truthfully that wasn't as long ago as it seems now that I think...

RaspberryPi + LinkMeter blue sky discussion

Well it sure seems to me that the advantages far outweigh the very few disadvantages, the main one probably being cost. That said it will still come in way under what a Stoker or similar would cost, and since I do not necessarily need it right now the wait part really is a non factor. Thanks...

RaspberryPi + LinkMeter blue sky discussion

I have read through the linkmeter threads, and now this one. I love the idea of building my own controller but wonder what the differences/advantages are to this system vs. the linkmeter built into a router? Will this system eventually be more robust? Will it also have the wireless capabilities...

S J. Gold Mini WSM Smoker

It is about the simplest solution for sure, but I can't take any credit I tried to build it like one I saw in previous posts, may be a combination of a few, I can't remember this was such a long post and there were so many different variations.....lol Like a previous poster I pile all the...

S J. Gold Mini WSM Smoker

Mike...it is amazing to me how well these little things work and just how handy it is. I have a 22.5" WSM on the way, but the size and fuel conservation on ths thing makes it perfect for a regular family meal.

I also just drilled holes, 12 @ 3/4" dia. in the pattern shown, I then set a foiled pan right on the bottom of the pan to catch drippings and act as a bit of a heatsink for the bottom of the pot. My first rack sits directly on the rib where the steamer plate would have been, a second rack is...

Sounds like a good plan, it worked for me Here is what the pot looks like, quite a bit different from the picture on Amazon but for a change it is an improvement and not the other way around.

S J. Gold Mini WSM Smoker

I got one from Target and it was a no go on fit, too big around. So I tried this one and it works perfectly, slightly more expensive but has free shiping from Amazon so at least for me it was cheaper than driving around trying to find one somewhere. It also has black plastic pieces on the...
