    2000 Redhead Rehab

My original Genesis 2000 that was passed along to my sister when I got the Summit 450 needs some love. Some rust throughout frame, needs slats, grates, drip pan rails (where can I get these)… but drip pan looks serviceable and stainless bars seem intact Am I missing something? Worthwhile...

Full Size Griddle for Genesis 1000 ?

I actually haven’t cooked on the Quilimetal either. Originally I intended to have one grate and one griddle on the Vieluxe but went down the griddle insert rabbit hole and wound up with the full size 6787. Having cooked on the full griddle, I now see the limitations of what you can actually...

Full Size Griddle for Genesis 1000 ?

Maybe same material but not same quality - not as smooth and definitely not rust resistant My insert is same as Slate which is higher grade than regular Weber griddle line they replaced - compare them side by side at your local hardware store I bought this “nonstick” quilimetal cast iron...

Full Size Griddle for Genesis 1000 ?

Couple of comments… Stainless steel cooks differently and is not nonstick - we have a set of all clad that sits unused because it’s a pain in the *** to prevent sticking Cast iron can be seasoned (except if enameled - I bought a half griddle that replaces one grate exactly - it is rough and...

2 Briskets at the Same Time!-Weber Summit Kamado

Is the foil tray right up to the grate? Wondering if the smoke will get underneath and how the bark will turn out

Debate: 13 Bar Genesis vs Summit 400 Series

For reference here is similar testing with main burners on Low then Med with 4th probe clipped to temp gauge on lid I could not test burners on High since the probes are only rated to 600f…

Debate: 13 Bar Genesis vs Summit 400 Series

I ran some tests on the Vieluxe to see if I could do a smoke infusion/sous vide type cook with just the smoker burner lit. I started on Low with increase to Med @4:00 then High @4:30. Here are pics of the setup and signals temp tracking Then I smoked some pork chops to 140f and seared...

So I drove an electric car

To master one pedal driving you have to avoid driving any other cars until your mind adjusts. I read that human performance studies show one pedal driving to ultimately be more intuitive but you must stick with it until you feel comfortable. I crossed the rubicon and now much prefer one pedal...

    Weber #9930 Grates

Josh What is the diameter of the temp gauge? I’m looking for something exactly 3.0” OD for my Vieluxe - I bought a 3” Tel-tru but it’s actually larger than the bezel Thanks Ray

Bay Area kitchen/restaurant supply store recommendations

    Pork shops and peaches

Is there any reliable way of telling whether the peach is freestone? Most markets don’t list the variety - I got a batch of clings and couldn’t grill them

So I drove an electric car

I tried the ole “pulse and glide” technique with my 06 Prius - it definitely works but takes a toll on your sanity and aggravates other drivers I got 54mpg lifetime average over 275k miles by driving the speed limit, looking ahead to smartly time stoplights and braking moderately to maximize...

So I drove an electric car

I get by with 240v 16a Overnight charging gives much more flexibility 120v charging on Tesla only gets 70% efficiency for some reason 240v is always around 95% Also try to keep charge between 20% and 80% for battery cycle longevity - I actually run mine at 70% unless needed for a trip

    Vieluxe 44 Restoration

From a usability standpoint: The upper shelf is awesome and folds out for a huge indirect area The grease collection is actually an 8” pot - superior to the smallish disposable pans on the summit The two side burners are 14kbtu - are much more robust and make the single Summit side burner feel...

So I drove an electric car

Sounds like you are making a thorough assessment. Maybe the used BEV market will be even worse at lease end and you get an even better deal. Not sure who is eligible for rebates right now but don’t forget to consider that I know people with Hyundai/Kia and Mach-E and they are very happy too...

    Vieluxe 44 Restoration

It feels like it runs hotter - may be due to more overall thermal mass - the grates are exactly the same (but without hinged access to summit smoker accessory) The valve plugs are different - summit (pic shown) has distinct ports whereas Vieluxe has slots (no pic) - not sure if it modulates...
