    HM dying

OK - the third browser (FireFox) let me post photos. Why not Chrome or Edge? No toolbar there at all. Made by Forum member Jascha Epley in BC - I think he made and sold a bunch of these a year and a half ago - not sure if he still does that or not. It's in the mail back to him now.

    HM dying

FWIW, mine has no model number visible, but it's a SMD version from late 2015. Part of why I bought it assembled - he does that sort of thing for work too.

    HM dying

Sorry, mine is none of the above. And how do I post pictures here? Can't find any selection for an attachment and pasting doesn't work. It's not important now anyway, since I've been able to contact the original builder who's pretty certain it's a processor issue, and I'm just sending it to...

    HM dying

Having had longstanding WiFi issues with my HM and RPi B+, this morning I sat down to reload the latest software and try afresh to get WiFi going. I'm really tired of reeling out my 100' Ethernet cable... Software load went fine and initially it booted and communicated - registering itself...

    Briquettes other than KBB?

I bought a bag of RO Embers briquettes 2 years ago and just tried it. I love it. KBB makes SO much ash and so little heat that I would never again use it in the WSM. I only use lump in the WSM now, but the RO briquettes are more convenient for grilling on the kettle. They light well, they...

Weber Grills: Why Do You Have What You Have?

When I was a kid my Dad upgraded to a Charmglow 2-grill natural gas setup in the 1950's and he was happy with it from then on. When my wife and I got married in 1974 we got a hibachi as a wedding present and loved it but soon upgraded to an early Weber kettle, and enjoyed it till we got a deal...

    Lump other than Royal Oak?

I bought some RO lump from Home Depot and it was nearly pulverized. Then our local Costco had a "Road Show" for Kamado Joe smokers and a deal on Kamado Joe lump charcoal. It's from Argentina, marked as organic hardwood, and many of the chunks are huge. I'd much rather have it too big and...

Can't see my HM on the HeaterMeter Devices page

It's adequate for my use here, and that address range is baked into my router. I do have a static IP that I pay for under my company name, and I can access the HM from OUTSIDE of my local network. I forward a port to the local HM IP address, and can check on the smoker if I'm away for a while...

Can't see my HM on the HeaterMeter Devices page

I did reformat, using that very utility. I first did a FAT32 format in Windows - which I then figured out was wrong, after which I found and used that utility to reformat the entire card and recover all the space. Still, when I wrote the current image and inserted the now-wiped card with only...

Can't see my HM on the HeaterMeter Devices page

Still haven't addressed the issue - spent some time today wiping my cable router and starting all configuration from scratch there, as my wifi has been poor since Comcast made me put in their new router. AFAIK is was mainly to take the ability to set wifi power away from customers, as part of...

Can't see my HM on the HeaterMeter Devices page

Finished the cook last night and will try to go back to bare metal and start over, at least as much as possible. Probably not till Tuesday - family stuff today and tomorrow, Annualing the Stearman on Monday. No electrons will be harmed in the interim ;-) I will screenshot and make notes of...

Can't see my HM on the HeaterMeter Devices page

It worked a few days ago, and PitDroid got in briefly this afternoon from a mile away from my house. That had to be out of my miserable wifi range. But I'll try to find out. A ping worked earlier too, but I didn't copy that one. I think I need to take the sd card out again and wipe...

Can't see my HM on the HeaterMeter Devices page

Thanks, Bryan. I'm an idiot I guess. I honestly don't know how I've had it running for a long time with 2 wifi dongles and wired occasionally, and now I can't get one wifi adapter to work. I did have the Edimax running briefly the other day, but it stopped and won's connect although my router...

Can't see my HM on the HeaterMeter Devices page

I've had WiFi issues and am currently just running a 100-foot ethernet cable out to the smoker. In working through the issues I decided to reflash and reinstall everything the other day. ALl worked well except still no Wifi, but now today I can't see my device on the HeaterMeter Devices page...

Solution for mounting SS pipe onto SS dog bowl?

I had a bad time trying to silver solder (SilFos) onto a PetSmart cat bowl. Done lots of silver soldering over the years. The solder flowed out nicely but once I was done it had no adhesion to the bowl. I think that Chinese cat bowl SS is some odd alloy - possibly not even anything we'd...

Thermocouple/thermistor probe and where to buy?

I killed two of my Maverick ET-73 probes by washing them before I learned that they're not waterproof. They read hundreds of degrees at room temperature. I ordered the 2-pack of Maverick ET-73 probes from Amazon - the listing plainly says they're for the ET-73 and NOT for the 732. Of course...

    Connectivity interruptions

I haven't done anything further yet. The unit is on my desk running continuously, and has run fine without any intervention since the 15th, which is 5 days now. Still communicating fine via Ethernet and Wifi. I'll probably disconnect the Ethernet next and see how long it goes on WiFi alone...

    Connectivity interruptions

The battery is a new battery backup unit that came with an AT&T gateway. When I dropped AT&T after a week of terrible service, they didn't want the huge brand new battery back. It's a gel cell and it was also plugged into the AC. The unit continued to function as a HeaterMeter after I brought...
