I will just leave this here

I'm thinking about going to pick this up over the weekend for research purposes. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/270677168109762

$20 Dollar Genesis 1000; Next Project.

Great find and what a survivor. Glad you're keeping it. I regret getting rid of the 1000 that I restored. I keep it close. Gave it to my brother, then helped him rehome it to another friend last year. I go visit it about once a month and make sure they are keeping it covered and grates cleaned...

05 Summit Platinum\Genesis Platinum Frankengrill Build Thread

My wife is so patient, but I think today's Amazon package has broken her will to listen ant further. I had to bring the 2 year old outside for assistance and even she is growing tired of helping to build her inheritance.

What is the worst looking "free" grill you still took?

I'm waiting on these folks to go to "free," but they are still working their way down from $100. Just dropped it to $50 and then $40 this week. Curious how the base managed to survive so well while the rest of it is totally demolished. And what are those grates?

I will just leave this here

Stok was a Home Depot brand years ago. They passed the 10 foot test, but at 5 feet you could start to see them skimping and up close was garbage. I think they were only like $300, so no surprise.

I will just leave this here

Anyone have a clue what this is? Coming from a high dollar part of town, so prob something exotic. Seller stays "solid stainless except for the ceramic briquettes" Won't respond to my question of model. I see a V logo but can't soon in enough to make it out. Claims to be working and might be...

05 Summit Platinum\Genesis Platinum Frankengrill Build Thread

Drilled the lighter port and managed to line it up perfectly AND ended up with a nice beveled finish. Hindsight I should have done this before permanently mounting the panel, because it was a real ***** to figure out.

    Platinum Alert

I've been following that thread too lol. Just realized it was you. What a beautiful grill. Prettier than a Platinum IMO, but serves a different purpose. Wouldn't last down here in our salty air. Yea, very strange decision to reinvent the wheel with the Summits. Makes me wonder if they had...

    Platinum Alert

Totally agree. The cabinet is just more attractive and gives my wife 1 more place to store her terra cotta pots that isn't in the garage where I'll break them. If you're ever down in Charleston, SC, I do have a spare Platinum cart in good shape to share. Not sure if you have been following my...

    Platinum Alert

My wife recently told me that if it meant that I would stop talking about "the greatest grill ever made" that I could start to buy all the Genesis Platinums I find and stockpile the parts somewhere out of sight in the garage. I've seen 3. I bought 1, the 2nd sold, and the 3rd was sent away with...

It's a piece of stainless about the same thickness as the frame. The same guy that welded my frame sold it to me and cut it to size.

05 Summit Platinum\Genesis Platinum Frankengrill Build Thread

I flipped a 5 year old Spirit this week and it really renewed my interest in finishing this project. Weber is junk now. You could lose a hotdog between the gaps in those cast iron grates and the firebox is maybe 1/2 the thickness of the older ones. Aesthetic update. Riveted a stainless panel...

Genesis Platinum C vs Summit Platinum D6

I just went through the same process you are dealing with. I have a Genesis Platinum and picked up a D6 that was 7/10 for $50 (with a propane tank!!) for research purposes. Impressions from a side by side use: The Summit is a hell of a machine and has a solid stainless cart and frame. the grill...

05 Summit Platinum\Genesis Platinum Frankengrill Build Thread

Still plinking along on the grill. It is fully functional now, so just working on cosmetics and procrastinating on attaching the last Stainless front panel. I want to convert to the Summit thermometer, but I've got these 2 holes from the old mount to deal with. Any suggestions for covering...

05 Summit Platinum\Genesis Platinum Frankengrill Build Thread

Appears I have properly rebuild the lid. Glad to know. Now that I look at the Summit, I bet those end caps are the same. I might rebuild the lid again and put the nicer caps on. A real shame that Weber didn't make a better firebox on Summits. The grill is in fantastic shape, but is a ticking...

05 Summit Platinum\Genesis Platinum Frankengrill Build Thread

I like those ends the best too. Maybe I need to order the nuts from Weber. I've been using what my local hardware store has, and it just isn't fitting super snug. They do the job and have held up for years, but it just isn't torqued down so I have a little bit of movement under the rim of the...
