    500 days until retirement

Look at what you started here @ChuckO ! 😄😄😄 Clearly many are very intriqued by your great situation. @Brett-EDH , I would hire you based on just that one comment. Not simply the content but your awareness it reveals. We actually spoke with a number of financial advisors at various times...

    Winter is Coming

Well, I don't really have these concerns and this thread doesn't apply to me, but I was attracted by the "Game of Thrones" (A Song of Ice and Fire) title "Winter Is Coming". So I'll take the opportunity, whether you saw or liked the HBO series or not, to heartily recommend that series of books...

    500 days until retirement

I assume you mean your best years financially and that would be great. But as you've seen here and likely elsewhere, retirement will likely just be "your best years". Chuck, if you're not already familiar with it, look up TopRetirements. At first, years back, I was a bit put off by the...

    500 days until retirement

Only a relative few will make 20K in SocSec. I certainly don't despite having very good income for 10+ before retiring at 55. (BTW, that was one of the best decisions i ever made.) IBM helped bridge my income until I reached 62 though it reduced my pension by an annual 6K permamently. I ran...

It may be just you, but whatever gets the coals burning is good. I like the "go to bed" part. 😄

Yeah, things were necessary or deemed necessary... I'm glad you found the new job, @ChuckO .

    500 days until retirement

I just saw an item yesterday that said the average person spends 26 years of their life sleeping. May seem a lot, but 8 hours is 1/3 of a day. 26 years is 1/3 of a 78 year life. Me, I need more and relish my sleep time. I have almost no recollection of my 2 year period as a manager for IBM...

    500 days until retirement

With very minor changes, Grant, I could have written that myself. I had 20 really good years with IBM. The last 2 turned into a real nightmare and with some detailed calculation, I decided to take the risk and retire on a shoestring in 2003 at 55 instead of our planned 58. The same situation...

    Too hot to grill?

I stumbled on this article this morning -- seems relevant to this thread. He makes a convincing argument. https://www.thenation.com/article/environment/civilization-collapse-climate-change/

I discovered Roy Buchanan on Second Album playing in the Record Bar in Chapel Hill. Unfortunately neither has been with us for a long time.

    Found this at Costco today

My but this thread grew legs! Like several others, I live in a sad state that does not permit independent sale of alcohol -- NC ABC is the only source. So no booze at Costco and much angst reading here. My real introduction to Scotch came in a bar in Rome with a new Scot friend who had...

    Breakfast lunch and dinner….McRib tomorrow!

@ChuckO "Dropped", yes. My daughter was just getting good at crawling when she found my first copy of The Allman Bros Live at Fillmore East and was delighted to learn that it would scoot easily around the floor with her hands on top (Whipping Post down !!!). I went through two more copies...

    Too hot to grill?

I agree. That's why i try to have my outdoor setup so thete's minimum back and forth. Enough storage is key. Hence my extended grill cabinets and the one I made for what wouldn't fit. It's not a Stephen Raichlen or Bobby Flay setup, but it does help limit the in and out.

Among most of your others, I had Billion Dollar Babies on vinyl -- practically wore it out. I don't do the vinyl vs digital question other than to state my preference. No one wins and I'm still happy. With religion and politics, someone is always unhappy.

    Blackened fish tacos

Thanks for that tutorial. I've wanted and tried to do blackened fish and, yes, just got fried. Some seem to think the seasoning is the blackening, but I never got the results similar to the one time years back when I ordered blackened fish. Your description sounds good, you result looks good...

Can't go there. I have them all plus many more. Wouldn't give any up. You can have the LPs -- I decided on CDs before I had my first player. Now with everything available on Tidal, I still haven't given up a single CD.

Now THAT is the way to spend your time cooking! Just let me know and I'll send you my shipping address. 😉 I completely get the cooking to taste -- the taste for that time. I wonder if ayone ever said "Variety is the spice of life." Shall we emphasize "spice"?
