Stoker ethernet not working when outside temp cold?

Yep, I have the same problem. It's not the Stoker that doesn't like the cold, its the wireless router/bridge. I keep my Stoker box and wireless bridge in a plastic rubbermaid box with a lid. I then put a heating pad in the bottom of the plastic box and put the electronics on the heating pad...

10 Best Christmas Gifts for Grillers: The Stoker

Great article Larry. Awesome quote as well by you.

Do you use your stoker from the start?

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Originally posted by Amir: I do too although I usually light the unit, get my meat prepared, then power on the stoker. Until then, the vent is wide open. Reason is that I...

Does the 5 CFM blower cut it for you on your stoker?

I don't have a WSM, I built a Stump clone and use a 5cfm fan. My cook chamber is 2' x 2' x 4'tall and I have no problems maintaining temps with just the little 5cfm fan. I did a test cook the other day to try a hot-cook for a brisket. The Stoker maintained 350 with no problems during the cook...

    stoker ext cables

Yep, the 3' splitter will work to give you more ports. Then get as many of the 20' extension cables as you need to get from the smoker inside to the Stoker (but keep the probes and fan on seperate extension cables). Or, you can do what many of us do and use a wireless router out by the smoker...

    stoker v6

Amir - that sounds great. I can't wait for you to return from your well-deserved vacation and post up this new version. I really like the part of just turning off the Stoker and turning it back on, then StokerLog will reconnect automatically. I sometimes forget to click the "auto lid detect" or...

    New stoker owner

Bob, glad you were able to get things finally working well. I had originally thought of flashing an old router but I decided that sounded like too much work. I bought a D-Link modem that has a switch on the bottom to make it a bridge and it was pretty easy to setup (although I had to try a few...

    stoker v6

That's great Amir! I can't wait for the new version. Yep, I gotta agree with Larry about the need for auto-reconnection. And I like Tom's idea of maintaining the last temps when restarting, then get an updated read to adjust the graph (if the temps have changed).

    Stoker

Wow, those little suckers are bright! I don't think I'd like to use those at home though. My smoker is mounted on a trailer that I keep in the back yard. Those lights would attract too much attention during long unattended overnight cooks. And when I need to know when the fan was on, I just...

Setup of a Wireless Network without the Internet

Joel - just use an extra wireless router. You'll only be able to connect to that router from the laptop, meaning you won't have your normal network and internet access at home. And when you are at someplace like a competition, you probably wouldn't have internet access anyway. I have used an...

    Stoker setup

Joe, it sounds like you are wanting to connect an ethernet cable from your Stoker to your laptop. This will allow the Laptop to use Stokerlog to monitor the Stoker. But it will not be accessible by another PC. I think you are thinking about a router, in order to make it accessible to other PCs...

    Stoker - adding probes

    Stoker - No Internet

Eric is right. Either a wireless router or non-wireless router. You can pick up an old "B" router for next to nothing. That's what I use. I'd like to get a wireless bridge, but they are usually pretty pricey.

Ping Amir: Re StokerLog feature request...

Pat - great suggestion. Amir, isn't the main screen getting a bit crowded? If there is room, that would be great. Otherwise, a pop-up to program this information. If a timer is programmed, could it then put a little icon on the main screen to let you know the timer has been set?

Ping Amir: Re StokerLog feature request...

Joe - at first I couldn't see the benefit of that feature. But the more I thought about it, the more ideas came to mind. When I cold smoke cheese (under 100F smoked for 2 hours), I do it by time -- the same when I smoke cured bacon (135F smoked for 5 hours). So the "timing" feature could be...

    Pictures of fan

Joe, I'll be doing a cook this weekend, so I can post pics then of my 5cfm Stoker fan. But to answer your question about how the air flow is shut off, there is a little metal flap (hinged from the top). The flap covers the opening when the fan is off (and also to protect the plastic fan blade...

    New Stoker Owner...

My guess would be the extension cables were only mono and not stereo. But it could just be a bad cable. I'd return it and try another one. Just verify it says "stereo". Disregard -- I see your issues were answered in the other post.

    New Stoker Owner...

Prior to mounting my smoker on a trailer and now adding a roof over it, I used to just take HD foil and make a little cover that was fanned out to keep rain off the fan. You just don't want to fully enclose the fan or you won't get much air into it -- you just need to protect it from above with...

    New Stoker Owner...

I also use a small plastic box, both as a storage for the Stoker and all of the cables/wires as well as to keep the unit dry when it's rainy. The lid snaps onto each end, but still allows room for the cables to come out from under the lid on the sides. I've never had a problem with the Stoker...
