    Analog TC reading way off

So I've managed to cobble together my AD8495 board and thermocouple, and have it hooked up to my Protometer, and the reading I'm getting is way off. I have a simple sketch that just displays the temp on the TC, and it's pretty accurate, so i'm fairly sure Iv'e got the board and TC working...

    Better probes?

Which is what led me to this: This would have you add a jack to your thermocouple, and make the board modification i mentioned earlier. I am going to send these off to Dorkbot today or tomorrow. I don't know if it will work as I intend, but at .34 sq inches, I can certainly test my ideas with...

    Better probes?

I think the only thing that has been decided upon is the use of an analog chip, namely the AD8495, as Bryan suggested in the high heat thread. I just got boared one night and decided to see if I could squeze one with the required components onto the exiting HM4 design. It was a labor of love...

    Better probes?

It took me a while to dig them up, but here is what I used for the CDN probes, straight out of my hmcore.cpp: {5.7079876e-4,2.1810467e-4,5.0643855e-8,2.17e+4}, // CDN Probes Software side for themocouple is done? great! I just finished a rework (a minor one at that)of the HM 4.0 board to add...

    Better probes?

Cdn ad-dtp392 They are CDN replacements, the specific model is AD-DTP392. I use them for both pit and food probes. I just found some on both e-bay and amazon. I have had one or two instances where one went off, but I could always attribute it to being left on the smoker in the rain after the...

    Better probes?

I've been running some chepo's I bought off ebay for a couple of years now. Worst problem I've have is if it they get wet and I have to let them dry out for a few days. I think I bought for w/ shipping for under $25. Calculating the Steinhart was fun (way back before unknown probe detection.

    High Heat Cooking???

DOH! So i was laying out an AD8495 breakout board in Eagle, and was planing on using a 1/8th inch audio jack, then using a stereo patch cable to connect back to the heatermeter; trying for a design everybody can use even though I have a custom HM build. I though "Oh, I can just remove the pullup...

    High Heat Cooking???

What if we attached the AD8495 to the unused ADC?

    Temp Probes: 3.3v vs 5v?

Right, and if you check either LinkMeterHM.sch or LinkMeterHM.brd, you'll see that it is attached to 5v. My question is when the codes does an analog read, how does it distinguish between 5v on the LinkMeterHM and 3.3v on the HeaterMeterPI? Or was that your point, that is doesn't need to because...

    Temp Probes: 3.3v vs 5v?

So I'm getting ready to update my custom heatermeter, and iwas looking at the schematics for both the linkmeter and the rpi heatermeter, and noticed that on the linkmeter version that the temp probes (among other things) run off the 5v rail, but in the rpi version the temp probes are running...

    High Heat Cooking???

Did you ever find another source for that thermistor? Or did you opt to go in another direction? I checked a few other Vishay distributors, but none of them even carry that gem you found:_( I'de much rather use a thermistor than a thermocouple. I'de probably just use it as my full time pit...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

Bryan, I was just curious if you ha given any thought yet on porting to the RPi? Specifically, were you planning on trying to port the existing link meter to the RPi, or if you had planned on going down a new route. I can't wait to 'get in line' with the rest of the linkmeter/heatermeter users...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

It it is a version 6, the Wikipedia page for WRT54G says that it only has 2MB of flash and 8MB of RAM. The standard LinkMeter image is 3.2MB so you'll have to build your own, stripping out as much as possible. I know someone has done it, but I don't know what the final config was. Also 8MB of...

    Linkmeter on an ADM5120.

Well I finally finished my UDS build, and upgraded to Linkmeter 2.0. Beautiful work Bryan! I also built a blower control circuit that is based on that portion of the HeaterMeter schematic, though I did substitute in the IRLB8721 that I believe John B recommended. After loading my new image...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

Woohoo! Successfully compiled and installed Linkmeter 2.0 for my ADM5120 board. It's up and running, and seams pretty stable on my test unit.... I'll probably slap it on the actual Linkmeter by this weekend (it's still running 1.5) I do have a question regarding one strange issue. It's probably...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

4 Minutes? Wow. I have paid support contracts that take longer to respond. So basically I should try and grab a fresh copy of Heatmeter from GitHub later today or tommorrow?

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

So after takeing some time to design and build a UDS, I'm back to playing with Linkmeter... I grabed a copy from github, and am currently trying to build from source. When I try to make Openwrt, i get the follwing error (with V=99) make[2]: Entering directory...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

Bryan, is it worth it for those of us running previous releases to upgrade?

    Linkmeter on an ADM5120.

After closer examination of the serial output, that would seam right. It would just cycle through various set points, probe offsets, etc. Then every once in a while it reset to defaults. Rinse and repeat . After commenting out menus.dowork, she ran perfectly with all 4 probes for the past 24+ hours
