I grabbed a 2000-2001 Weber genesis gold for 50$. Decided to restore it first time I work with one of these. They are pretty simple build and easy to work with. I’m not the best at keeping track at before and after pictures I had to diassasemble it a bit so here’s the best before picture I have.

Yup and you’ll notice you won’t get same life out of replacements. They will actually rust through quicker where the original ones tend to just look rusty but take a long time to rust through.

Hey Greg something to keep in mind sometimes the burners that came with the grills were better quality then the current replacements. Specially on the older grills. I always like to check them with a magnet. If they lasted you 13 years I’m betting a magnet won’t stick. I made the mistake once...

Yikes, what a shame. I think we can all agree the original genesis were definitely well made. It’s a shame it’s not the case anymore.

So to close the story finally found a pic of the grill that inspired me to find a redhead and restore it , my parents old grill ! And to my surprise it was actually a genesis 2 as well! I thought it may have been a genesis 2000 but nope definitely genesis 2. So this made my restore even more...

Thanks Bruce did exactly what I had said . 3 coats gloss 2 coats matte to give me the Matte look I liked. Incredible how much the wood changed with just varnish no stain

So after a long break I managed to finish her!! I had gotten really busy with work and hadn’t been able to finish. Finally started working on it again about 3 weeks ago and finished today!! I want to give major thanks to Jon again for making this all possible.

Some interesting things I learned along the way with this genesis 2. The igniter used to be attached different the small tiny hole where the small metal shield tab goes and bends was actually where a screw went attaching the white wire. The bigger hole the igniter went in without a metal shield...

yup no stain just clear varnish. I’m sure it’ll Change color a bit but not by much hopefully.

Still need to clean control panel, and few other parts. Then have the daunting task of varnishing the wood. Here is a sneak peek at the wood cut and sanded ready for varnish.

So I got the star connectors and the missing hardware for the frame assembled and painted. Haven’t been as good as some other members in taking pictures but here she is today: I want to give a shout out to Jon for being so helpful in making my project come together. Thanks Jon!

You should be able to use a 1/4-20 bolt 1/4 stainless washer. 1/4-20 nut . Look for stainless so it doesn’t happen again as far as length think 2 inch to 2 1/4 inch should work. As for where to get them amazon or bolt depot.
