Go for it they have fixed their major software issues. Mine works great, and it is a older one.

    Make Weber Connect Better

Monitoring grill temps during smoke boost is easy go buy an iGrill ambient temperature probe, and plug it into an unused probe port on the Smokefire. You can watch the grill temp all day without the exponential filter to see what temperature your grill is at. The Smokefire will display any temp...

    TrendKill posted a goodSmokeFire🔥 video.

The slow response of the grill temperature thermocouple is due to filtering, I suspect it is an exponential filter. The filter is there so your grill’s PID doesn’t go crazy every time you open the lid and over stoke the fire. On a charcoal grill you can simply stop the fan when you see a rapid...

    TrendKill posted a goodSmokeFire🔥 video.

I have developed my own PID controller for pitboss grills. Let me just say when you introduce variable speed fans to a pellet grill it can have some unintended consequences. I adapted the controller from my charcoal grill controller. Let’s just keep it simple there are many adaptations Weber...

    Just a quick thought.

It is the exponential filter they use on the probe. They do that so when you open the grill it won’t go crazy, and over-stoke the fire. The trade off is that it temperatures can fluctuate a bit.

Anyone know, or think, there will be a Smokefire ver2?

It is a good grill, it is becoming my daily driver. I have many grills, 5 of them on my patio. Nothing gets to temp faster, and has the least amount of hassle. Plus it can do everything that any other grill does on my patio from low and slow to sear. It is truly versatile, and a great cooker...

Is it safe to purchase a Smokefire?

Yes it is safe, the software had some issues, in the shutdown mode but they have fixed it. For a grill it’s great. I have done a pork but on it, I use a different pellet smoker for long cooks. The pork but came out great. It’s main attraction is how hot it gets. For those in colder climates you...

I've never felt this uncertain about a purchase

Boy does it cook good, I have had many great meals come off this grill. It is a real pellet grill smoker.

I've never felt this uncertain about a purchase

The mechanicals are not the problem with this grill it‘s the software, and some bone headed mistakes they made.

Weber recalling unsold SmokeFire grills to the factory

I have a Smokefire ex4 I waited to pull the trigger, I don’t think the software is the best. The internal thermocouple has way to much exponential filtering. I understand why they would do that. For me the Smokefire ex4 has worked flawlessly. Only problem I have had is a fuse blew on it. The...

Has anyone mounted a HeaterMeter to an offset smoker?

Home depot sells some really super powerful rare earth magnets... Nope don't try that heat kills magnets.. sorry thought I had a killer idea...

    Nobody Breathe!!!

Darren you P is way to high your getting oscillation, and your oscillation is increasing not reducing . Half your P value, and that ringing should be reduced. Also your D might be a little high, I run at about half 5-8.

    Nobody Breathe!!!

Very close This is very close to being perfect, you P gain might be smudge to high but this is a decent tune of the PI portion of the PI you notice how the ringing is reduced over time, this is the integral taking over from the proportional. Yes a large D on the Akorn is typical, the Akorn...

    The Development Log

Yes I did it but I had to use a different controller to do it. You are right for the Atmel 328p 25khz is a very odd frequency. You would have to use timer 1 the 16 bit one to do anything meaningful. I used a teensy 3.2, and had to roll my own test bed to try this out, as it supports PWMs with...

    About to order! Some questions

Pull the trigger, it is a nice unit, and you will not find a better controller on the market. I have 3 of them, and have given them to my customers that are into BBQ. As far as your probe selection I would go with the advice given. The thermo works are good probes, also make sure you get a...

    The Development Log

There is one other option but it would blow the BOM cost out of proportion 25.00, and that is to use a PWM driven blower. http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Delta-Electronics/BCB1012UH-SP08/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMuXLADUiNFjply8TnzpHSSUPjct%2FmGB5zgdbrXncVMyPw%3D%3D There are some compelling reasons...

Setting up my HeaterMeter - battery power and headless

Andy if you want an industrial fan buy the pit viper from BBQ Gruru, I have a modified fan damper for that. Plus the pit viper has a nice Weber plug in adapter for those units. Go to here https://www.bbqguru.com/storenav?CategoryId=2&ProductId=44 Get the fan and then get the adapter for it. PM...

    The Development Log

Bryan, you can change the PWM modulation frequency divider. I would stay away from the linear drive circuits, all they do is generate a lot of waste heat and inefficiency. I would look and see if you can change the divider before wasting time on a linear drive for the fan. Just my two cents, fix...

Heater Meter project cost and kit parts

The thing your getting with the heater meter, and some grills require this to work (acorns, big steel kegs) is the servo dampener function. This can really lock in a grill that is insulated. Yes you can go buy a "professional" controller from the store, but when you need to tune the PID well...
