LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

Just be careful to check the polarity on the serial port. Some models have ground on the right and some on the left. These models also have 2 serial ports each. Linkmeter uses ttys1 for receiving data from the HM. On some models ttys1 is on the outside header pins and on others it is on the...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

I find other compatible Linksys routers all the time for 3.99 at Goodwill. All Bryan would have to do is make some small tweaks to v3.2 to get to make it mount upside down in any Linksys router.

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

I have always wondered about the alarm code and thought about asking many times. I have also always thought this project could be relatively easily adapted as a homebrew control system. Beer and BBQ! Beermeter!!! Beermeter!!! Beermeter!!! If you get bored of course. I know there is at least...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

You guys read Girls with Slingshots too!? Amazing! That it what I got when I Googled GWS. Anyway, something weird is going on with dorkbotpdx orders. James said he was out of townn on business in Seattle most of last week and that he would ship the 2/22 boards Thursday lastly week...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

The hell you say! Actually the PCB was designed in such a way that they should be bent down: If you mount them thusly, the tallest thing on the board is the ATmega chip. That said, the board was also designed to also be usable in a standalone HeaterMeter configuration (the circle cutout and...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

You ought to be able to shoehorn it into pretty much any wrt router. </div></BLOCKQUOTE> The Linkmeter board is a very tough board to fit in non-GL routers. Mainly because the large n-channel transistors stick straight up and you can't bend them down because there is no room. I redesigned...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

I tried last night for 1 1/2 hours. I was able to get one into my cart on the Farnell site but couldn't get all the way through checkout. Very frustrating!

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

It has just occurred to me that I have WAY too many Linkmeter compatible routers and parts. My wife is starting to look at me like I am insane. I would feel better if they were getting some use. So I am selling the following: 1. WRT54G v3...make me an offer. I will throw in a partially...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

Coefficients are set correctly. I will have pit and probe1 Ikea. When I plug Maverick 72 into probe2, maverick is correct but Ikea probes read 300-400F.

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

Yes, standard 10k are fine. The problem appears when you use the Maverick and IKEA probes at the same time. Electrically speaking they are separate...right? Is there something on the software side that would explain this? Issues is consistent between Linkmeter v3.1 and MiniLink v1.0.

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

Not having much luck with these IKEA probes. They are way off using the presets...anyone else having issues?

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

Thanks for the help Bryan...it was a lot of fun to learn Eagle! I noticed the A0 silkscreen issue this morning so I did fix it before I sent it to Dorkbot. I will fix the other silkscreen issues which I agree will probably come up when I get the boards. The silkscreen is a pain! I have...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

I made a couple more changes and I read more about routing, nets, and the like. I ended up using 10mil traces, 13mil for 5V/3.3V, and 18mil for GND/12V with 10mil spacing. Here she is: MiniLink v1.1 (3) We are still at less than $5 per board if you order through DorkbotPDX. Should be...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

Okay so I am done with the board design on the MiniLink v1.1. I think she is ready for the board house. I estimate that the cost per board will be about $4.50 which is less than half of the cost of the original Linkmeter v3.1. You do lose the LCD and button but the software that Bryan has...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

Bryan...made some tweaks per your suggestion. I want this to be a final design so I am trying to get it right this time. Here are the link: MiniLinkv1.1.zip It would be great if you could check it out. Do you have another suggestion other than grounding A0? It could probably be fixed in...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

Darn...I thought I got all of the LCD stuff out of there. Well at least I am learning...I should have consulted with you first. Either way I do have a working board which I am going to put in a router and ship off to my mom. So a capacitor will help prevent fluctuations in voltage on the...

Here are the links to the board and schematic: https://docs.google.com/open?i...YzYtMDRhYWFlYmYwOGFl https://docs.google.com/open?i...MTMtMzhjNDE2YzEzOWUx Not happy with the routing yet so I haven't finished that (i'm at 98.8% with no vias but can't seem to get 0 vias). I also need to...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

That looks awesome Dave! I had done a few layouts myself to try to fit something into a smaller case, by building it around the serial connector. I didn't consider mounting it upside down though, what a great idea! What you're probably seeing is due to the fact that the button pin is floating...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

So I got my MiniLink v1.0 back from Dorkbot today. Works out of box so that is great! This is my non-LCD version of the Linkmeter v3.1. The board is designed to sit upside down in non-WRT54GL routers (i.e. the non-L-shaped boards). Fits perfect in my WRT54G v3, WRT54GS v1, and WRT150N...
