wOW - what a great deal - Yes you can put the charcoal on the grate. I have one and do it all the time. You might want to get a cover for it.

It is designed for low and slow in the oven. My mother has used her for pot roasts etc, stews chili would be good too I am sure. Not sure why you you could not use it on the WSM for the same purpose.

I see references to Master Touch and OTG. I own a OTG and it looks like the pictures of the Master Touch I have seen on this forum. So my question is, what is the difference?

I live in NJ and always cover my grill. However, their was another post from Florida and they suggested not to cover the grill due to the mold problem. So I guess it depends on if you live in a high humidity area.

Doug - mystery solved - I reexamined my grills: Performer EZ - 1988 OTG - DD 2000 R (with a circle around it) - registered !! When I first looked at the grill I did not see the letters.
